Attending the event were Secretary of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee Bui Van Nghiem, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Lu Quang Ngoi, leaders of Vinh Long province through the periods, local authorities and relatives of Professor, Academician Tran Dai Nghia.
At the ceremony, delegates respectfully offered flowers, incense and observed a minute of silence to commemorate the life and career of Professor, Academician Tran Dai Nghia for his homeland and country.
Professor, Academician Tran Dai Nghia's real name is Pham Quang Le. He was born on September 13, 1913 into a poor farming family in Chanh Hiep village, Tam Binh district, Vinh Long province (now Hoa Hiep commune, Tam Binh district, Vinh Long province).
Since childhood, Pham Quang Le was very studious, intelligent, determined, and eager to learn. Le always ranked first in school exams, topping both the local and Western baccalaureate exams.
In 1935, Pham Quang Le went to France to study when he was 22 years old. In 1940, Pham Quang Le received 3 degrees at almost the same time: Bridge and Road Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Mathematics. After that, he continued studying and received 3 more engineering degrees including: Aviation, Mining-Geology and Mechanical Engineering.

During this time, Pham Quang Le also researched the weapons manufacturing industry. He stayed in France to work at the Aircraft Research Institute, then went to Germany to work in an aircraft manufacturing factory and the Weapons Research Institute.
In September 1946, President Ho Chi Minh went to France for negotiations. Pham Quang Le expressed his desire to return to serve the country.
At the end of 1946, President Ho Chi Minh assigned him the important position of Director of the Military Armament Department - Ministry of National Defense (now the General Department of Defense Industry of Vietnam) and Director of the Military Armament Research Department - General Command of the Army (now the Institute of Military Science and Technology).
In 1947, under the technical direction of Tran Dai Nghia, the military factory in Thai Nguyen successfully manufactured the Bazooka gun. This is a weapon mainly used to attack tanks and warships.

Two years later, he and his colleagues successfully researched and manufactured the SKZ recoilless rifle. This is a light gun that can be carried on the shoulder but has great destructive power and is used to shoot at fortified fortresses, with bullets that can penetrate concrete.
In 1948, Professor Tran Dai Nghia was on the list of the first 11 people to be promoted to the rank of general of the Vietnam People's Army. He was also the first Director of the Military Ordnance Department - one of the scientists who laid the foundation for the young defense industry of Vietnam.
During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Tran Dai Nghia contributed significantly to finding measures to prevent interference of B-52 aircraft and upgrading the flight altitude of SAM-2 missiles to organize the most effective air defense.
On November 20, 1948, he was promoted to the rank of Major General at the age of 35. In 1952, he was awarded the title of Hero of Labor in the first batch of Vietnam. After that, he held the position of Director of the Vietnam Academy of Science.
From the 1950s to the end of his life (1997), Professor Tran Dai Nghia was assigned important responsibilities in many different fields: Director of the Military Armament Department; Director of the Artillery Department; Deputy Director of the General Department of Logistics; Deputy Director of the General Department of Technology; Director of the State Basic Construction Committee; Director of the State Committee for Science and Technology; Director of the Vietnam Academy of Science; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade; Deputy Minister of Industry; Deputy Minister of Heavy Industry; First President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the first President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology...
