Vingroup Corporation wants to spend its own money to research a metro line connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Can Gio district according to the Prime Minister's direction.
Vingroup Corporation has just proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to allow this enterprise to spend funds to research and survey to propose an investment plan for metro line 12 (District 7 - Can Gio), combined with the construction of Can Gio bridge.
According to this group, currently, in the traffic planning scheme in the general planning adjustment project, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is assigning functional departments and branches to study and supplement the urban railway line (appropriate type) from the center to Can Gio district, following the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
In addition, the city is planning to invest in the construction of Can Gio Bridge, with the goal of starting construction on April 30, 2025 and completing it in 2028. When completed, the project will replace Binh Khanh ferry - currently the only means of transport connecting Can Gio island district with the city center, while promoting the development of sea encroachment projects and Can Gio international port.
Vingroup realizes that the research and investment in the metro line connecting the city center with Can Gio district according to the policy of Ho Chi Minh City is completely consistent with the trend and needs of traffic development, improving transportation capacity, ensuring the connection between the city center and Can Gio district.
Therefore, the group proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee create favorable conditions for the enterprise to coordinate with the Department of Transport and the consulting unit implementing the Can Gio bridge project to research, survey, and find suitable technical and investment-effective solutions to combine the urban railway project with this bridge project.
After completing the research, the feasible plan will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration.
According to the Department of Transport, on January 6, the unit held a meeting with relevant agencies about Vingroup's proposal to build a metro line to Can Gio.
After the meeting, Vingroup agreed to send a document to the Department to clearly define the proposed content of the technical research plan, scope of research, form of project investment, research funding source, rights and responsibilities of related parties...
From there, the Department consulted and proposed the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to consider approving the procedures to implement the project.
On January 4, at the conference announcing the planning of Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Prime Minister informed more about the proposal to billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup - to build a subway system from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio district.
"I discussed with Mr. Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup, about building a metro system from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio district. Mr. Vuong agreed and was very enthusiastic about this proposal," said the Prime Minister.
From this, the Prime Minister suggested to Ho Chi Minh City that it should assign more work to large enterprises. The Prime Minister requested that this spirit be thoroughly understood when implementing the planning.
Receiving comments, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - committed that the city will implement according to the approved planning and the Prime Minister's instructions as well as the proposals of ministries and branches.
The Prime Minister asked Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong to build a subway from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio.
