NDO - On December 27, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) opened a 5G/6G research laboratory. This is a laboratory sponsored by Viettel to serve the research of fundamental technologies for the 5G network, towards 6G.

Viettel-HUST 5G/6G Research Laboratory includes a complete 5G Stand-alone telecommunications network system (5G network architecture using all core technologies, independent of 4G) researched and developed by Viettel from core network (data processing) to radio (connecting to terminal devices).

Research groups of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will use the laboratory to serve research on core technologies of new generation wireless connections such as beamforming (radio signal orientation, helping to improve transmission performance with terminal devices), network slicing (network division, dividing the physical network into separate networks to meet different needs), uRRLC (ultra-precise connection at ultra-low latency, transmitting data almost error-free at millisecond latency).

These are technologies that serve 5G applications such as industrial automation, automatic control, self-driving cars, and remote medical surgery.

Viettel awards graduate scholarships to develop research talent.

At the event, Viettel also awarded 9 postgraduate scholarships to develop research talent (Viettel Research Excellence Scholarship - VES).

This is a scholarship program for young researchers in the fields of science and technology, in which Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the first unit Viettel has coordinated to implement.

In 2023, the Group awarded 8 scholarships to master's students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

The grants demonstrate Viettel's commitment to improving the quality of Vietnam's human resources in high-tech fields, promoting research cooperation and technology transfer between research institutes, universities and enterprises to create momentum for science and technology development.

To date, Viettel and Hanoi University of Science and Technology have cooperated in research and published 25 scientific reports.

Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang, Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said: “Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Viettel have had a long-term cooperation, bringing many important results in the past time. We will make the most of the strength of the laboratory as well as the in-depth research and training cooperation with Viettel to continue to conduct meaningful research, contributing to important scientific and technological fields for the development of the country.”

Lieutenant Colonel Cao Anh Son, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, affirmed: “Viettel is very aware that investing in education is investing in the future. As a technology group, we understand that it is necessary to expand the network of in-depth research cooperation, so that from that research we can create products that contribute to society.”
