Currently, there are about 500,000 subscribers using 2G on the entire Viettel network and Viettel will complete the conversion for these customers before October 15 - the time when 2G signal will be turned off.
From September 20, Viettel has implemented free 4G device conversion support for 700,000 subscribers currently using 2G devices with a budget of up to 300 billion VND. After 1 week of implementation, more than 200,000 devices have been sent to customers, reducing the number of remaining 2G subscribers to nearly 500,000.
Supported phones are 4G phones that meet basic calling and listening needs, have loud volume, support voice reading when dialing numbers, or have additional Cloud phone features that allow access to OTT applications. At 12,000 mobile phone exchange points located in villages, hamlets, and densely populated areas, Viettel coordinates with community digital transformation teams to popularize digital skills for people.
In addition to giving away and reducing the price of the device, other solutions are being applied by Viettel to each remaining 2G subscriber, including: callbot calling, texting about the time of stopping the technology and incentives when switching to 4G, broadcasting media content before outgoing calls of 2G subscribers; at the same time, consulting on converting customers to 4G before the 2G signal shutdown schedule, taking care of newly converted customers.
Following the roadmap of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Viettel has taken drastic measures to accelerate the conversion. In August alone, more than 3 million 2G devices were successfully upgraded to 4G. Over the past year, Viettel has continued to expand its 4G coverage, installing more than 6,000 4G radio stations, bringing 4G coverage to over 96%. The goal is that by 2025, 4G coverage will reach over 98% of the population.
