Vietnam Airlines and Lao Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), opening a period of extensive strategic cooperation between the two national airlines.
The signing ceremony took place at the National Convention Center (Vientiane, Laos) in the presence of senior leaders of the two countries, affirming the determination of both sides in continuously improving the quality of aviation services and expanding regional connectivity. Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines will support Lao Airlines in providing technical services at Wattay International Airport (Vientiane) and Luang Prabang for the Airbus A320/321 fleet, as soon as Lao Airlines meets the requirements for service certification. The two sides also signed a cooperation agreement in the field of cargo transportation at Wattay Airport when Lao Airlines completes the establishment of a cargo service company. This promises to create a strong driving force for the development of logistics networks and aviation trade in the region.

In addition to the service sector, the agreement also opens up great opportunities for training and experience exchange between the two national airlines. Aircraft maintenance engineers, pilots and flight attendants from both sides will have the opportunity to study and work in a professional environment, contributing to improving the quality of aviation human resources according to international standards. In particular, this agreement also lays the foundation for converting the codeshare cooperation between the two airlines to a more flexible form, expanding connections on routes not only between Vietnam and Laos but also reaching out to other markets. This is considered a strategic step to take advantage of the strengths and enhance the position of both airlines in the Southeast Asian region. The cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Lao Airlines was established many years ago, with remarkable achievements. Previously, the two sides signed special passenger and seat sharing contracts, bringing great benefits to passengers on routes between Vietnam and Laos. In addition, the two companies have closely coordinated in promoting trade, developing tourism products and promoting culture between the two countries.
