Vietnam Airlines to operate more than 1,500 night flights during Lunar New Year 2025

Compared to the peak period of Tet 2024, the number of night flights during Tet 2025 of the airline increased by 88% to meet the increased travel demand of passengers during Tet holiday.

Night flights depart after 9pm and before 5am the next morning, focusing on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Vinh, Hue... The airline will use Airbus A321 and Airbus A320 neo aircraft for most of these routes.

For the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route, Vietnam Airlines uses additional modern wide-body aircraft Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.

To prepare for the peak period of Lunar New Year 2025, Vietnam Airlines has opened early sales of 2.15 million seats, equivalent to more than 11,000 flights across the domestic network.

The airline also received three new aircraft in December 2024, including two Airbus A320neo aircraft and one Boeing 787-10 wide-body aircraft.

At the same time, Vietnam Airlines leased three more Airbus A320 aircraft from January 13 to February 12, increasing the number of aircraft in its fleet to more than 100.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, as of January 10, Vietnamese airlines had added 522 flights, equivalent to an increase of about 133,000 seats on domestic routes compared to the previous week.

The number of additional flights is concentrated on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Central provinces from January 22 to February 8. Of which, the Ho Chi Minh City - Buon Ma Thuot route increased by 26 flights, the Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon route increased by 37 flights, the Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa route increased by 32 flights, the Ho Chi Minh City - Chu Lai route increased by 34 flights...

Despite the addition of more flights, many routes from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities were quickly filled up on the days leading up to Lunar New Year 2025 and in the opposite direction in the period after Tet.

Many routes continue to have a 100% booking rate such as: Hanoi to Buon Ma Thuot (100%); Ho Chi Minh City to Hue/Pleiku/Tuy Hoa/Quy Nhon/Buon Ma Thuot/Quang Binh/Thanh Hoa/Vinh/Chu Lai/Quy Nhon/Nha Trang/Hue (100%).

For the routes Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang/Hanoi, Hanoi – Da Nang/Ho Chi Minh City, the occupancy rate during the period from January 25 to February 2 is increasing rapidly, especially on the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi/Da Nang route, some days near Tet have seen a high rate of over 90%.
