On July 3, in Seoul (South Korea), Vietnam Airlines held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its flight route and welcomed the 15 millionth passenger on the Vietnam - South Korea route.
The event took place within the framework of the official visit to Korea by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the role and efforts of Vietnam Airlines over the past 30 years in becoming a bridge to promote relations between Vietnam and Korea.
Vietnam Airlines Chairman of the Board of Directors Dang Ngoc Hoa shared that Vietnam Airlines is proud to be the airline that laid the first bricks to build and develop the vibrant aviation market as it is today. Over the past 30 years, Vietnam Airlines has made continuous efforts to expand its flight routes and upgrade its fleet of aircraft on routes to Korea.

Vietnam Airlines presents a gift to the 15 millionth passenger on the Vietnam - Korea route. Over the past three decades, Vietnam Airlines has operated a total of 65,000 flights, transporting 15 million passengers and 291,300 tons of cargo between the two countries.

Previously, on July 1, the airline also signed a memorandum of understanding with four travel companies in Korea. Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines will coordinate with partners to promote two-way investment and tourism, support each other in promotional activities, marketing and cooperation on aviation products and services.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines is operating 6 direct routes: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Seoul; Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Busan; Da Nang - Seoul and Cam Ranh - Seoul, with an average frequency of up to 112 flights per week.

Regarding the partnership between the two countries, in 2022, Vietnam and South Korea upgraded their bilateral relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Currently, Vietnam and South Korea are each other's third largest trading partners.
In the aviation sector, since the official connection of the Korea-Vietnam route, Korea has been one of the fastest growing international markets in Vietnam. The average increase was 22% per year before the pandemic, reaching more than 9.65 million passengers in 2019.
In 2023, the total number of passengers on the Vietnam - Korea route recovered quite positively after the pandemic, reaching 8.25 million passengers, equivalent to 85% of 2019.
In the first 5 months of this year, the number of passengers operated on the route reached more than 4.4 million.
With these figures, Vietnam is among the top destinations for Korean tourists. Conversely, Korea is also the top destination for tourism - study - work for Vietnamese people.
