Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) have just signed a cooperation agreement to deploy internet connection services on aircraft. With this signing, some of the airline's flights are expected to have internet connection from 2025.
Specifically, Vietnam Airlines plans to deploy in-flight internet connectivity to some of its aircraft in 2025 on international flights to the US, Europe and some domestic flights. The remaining aircraft and flights will continue to be deployed from 2026.
VNPT will cooperate with Vietnam Airlines to develop a roadmap, complete procedures, install hardware, set up software and support operations and exploitation. With advances in technology, it is expected that the internet speed on Vietnam Airlines aircraft can reach up to 60 Mbps. With this new service, Vietnam Airlines passengers will be able to use internet services for entertainment and work while in the air.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, said that the deployment of internet services on aircraft will be a breakthrough product, raising the level of service, contributing to Vietnam Airlines' goal of soon becoming the leading digital technology airline in the region.
Currently, there are more than 1,000 commercial aircraft worldwide equipped with internet connectivity and this number is expected to increase to more than 24,000 aircraft by 2035. Many major airlines in the world have deployed internet services in the air such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, Air France...
