Vietjet has ambition to open direct flight route from Hanoi to Con Dao airport

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just announced that in the coming time, airlines will increase their capacity to operate routes with plans to receive more aircraft. Specifically, Vietnam Airlines plans to increase its transport capacity with 3 new aircraft, including 2 A320s and 1 B787-10. At the same time, Vietjet Air aims to expand its fleet with 8 A321s and 2 E190s. In particular, the E190 aircraft will be used by Vietjet Air to re-operate the Hanoi - Con Dao route, which was temporarily suspended after Bamboo Airways restructured. Currently, Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines are also planning to increase the number of aircraft to serve the market.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the continuous addition of new aircraft by airlines not only helps increase transport capacity but also brings many benefits to passengers such as increasing flight frequency, expanding the flight network, reducing overload and contributing to stabilizing airfares. Because the infrastructure of Con Dao airport has not met the requirements of wide-body aircraft such as A320/A321, the exploitation of routes to the island has encountered many difficulties, affecting the connectivity of Con Dao with other localities. Currently, VASCO - a member of Vietnam Airlines, is the only airline operating flights to Con Dao using ATR72 aircraft. With a frequency of 16 round trips per day to Ho Chi Minh City and 5 round trips per week to Can Tho, VASCO is exclusively providing air services on these routes. Vietjet Air's opening of a direct flight from Hanoi to Con Dao will certainly receive support from tourists. Because of the increasing demand for tourism to Con Dao, finding air tickets is often difficult due to scarcity and high prices. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has been working with airlines to find optimal solutions to enhance air connectivity to Con Dao, especially in choosing the right type of aircraft for the existing airport infrastructure. Therefore, the participation of other airlines operating flights to/from Con Dao will contribute to increasing the capacity of the routes, adding more choices of air services for passengers, contributing to solving the shortage of tickets during some peak periods, better meeting the travel needs of the people.
