On October 13, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is visiting Vietnam.

Vietnam - China relations are developing deeply, comprehensively and substantially.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed and highly appreciated Prime Minister Li Qiang's first official visit to Vietnam.

Emphasizing that in the context of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries of Vietnam and China entering a new phase of promoting the building of a Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the visit is of great significance, contributing to maintaining regular high-level strategic exchanges; promoting the concretization of common perceptions and the implementation of documents signed during the mutual visits of high-ranking leaders of the two sides in recent times; thereby adding new development momentum to the bilateral relationship.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Prime Minister Li Qiang agreed that the relationship between the two countries is in a stage of profound, comprehensive and substantive development.

According to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Vietnam is determined to consolidate and develop cooperative and friendly relations with China, considering this a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations.

Prime Minister Li Qiang also affirmed that China considers Vietnam a priority in China's neighboring foreign policy.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man made proposals to continue promoting cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, including enhancing political trust, promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation in a balanced and sustainable manner, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides will accelerate the connection of railways and highways; expand the export of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products to China; expand cooperation in the fields of digital economy, green development, renewable energy; and organize well the activities of the Vietnam-China Cultural Exchange Year 2025.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People's Congress of China continue to promote their legislative and supervisory roles in promoting bilateral relations, and promote the exchange of experiences in perfecting institutions and building a socialist rule-of-law state under the leadership of the Party.

Regarding maritime issues, the two sides need to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement high-level agreements and common perceptions, better control and resolve disagreements at sea; resolve disagreements by peaceful means, in accordance with the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues between Vietnam and China and on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS.

Strengthening the public opinion foundation for bilateral relations

Prime Minister Li Qiang expressed his agreement with the proposals of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

He affirmed that the Party, State and people of China wish to join the Party, State and people of Vietnam in constantly consolidating, preserving and promoting the friendly neighborly relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, actively building the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, contributing to the construction of socialist modernization in each country.

Prime Minister Li Qiang made three proposals to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the coming time. One is to maintain regular strategic exchanges between senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries to promptly discuss major strategic issues in bilateral relations and regional and international issues; and to ensure strategic guidance for the building of the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future.

Second, expand exchanges and cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies; effectively implement the cooperation mechanism between the National People's Congress of China and the National Assembly of Vietnam; and welcome National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to visit China to enhance exchanges between the two countries' legislative bodies.

Third, strengthen the public opinion foundation for bilateral relations, organize well the activities of the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025, and tell the story of friendship between the people of China and Vietnam.

At the end of the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully invited Chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress Zhao Leji to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the first session of the Vietnam-China inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanism.
