Vietnam and Sri Lanka promote trade and investment cooperation in agriculture

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister suggested that Vietnam share its experiences with Sri Lanka on agricultural policies, science and technology, especially plant varieties and rice industry development.

On the occasion of attending the 37th Ministerial Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Asia and the Pacific (APRC37), the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Minister Le Minh Hoan visited Sri Lanka from February 19-21. During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena; met with Minister of Agriculture and Plantations Mahinda Amaraweera and Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda; visited and worked at the Harangala tea factory in Kandy; organized a seminar to connect businesses and agricultural products in Colombo; worked with the Regional Development Bank of Sri Lanka; visited the monument and exhibition booth about President Ho Chi Minh at the Colombo capital library; visited and encouraged the staff of the Embassy. At the reception, the delegation of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena congratulated Vietnam on its many economic achievements and rapid development in recent times; He affirmed that generations of Sri Lankan leaders and Sri Lankan people, regardless of their political parties, have always admired, respected and loved President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam. He praised the policies that Vietnam has applied to attract and create a favorable environment for foreign investment, and suggested that Vietnam share its experiences with Sri Lanka on agricultural policies, science and technology, especially plant varieties and rice development. For his part, Minister Le Minh Hoan shared: "In the context of globalization, each country cannot solve all problems on its own, but needs coordination and cooperation to join hands to solve and complement each other's strengths. Sri Lanka has strengths in tea, Vietnam also has many strengths in rice and aquaculture production. Vietnam is ready to cooperate and share experiences in agricultural and rural development with Sri Lanka, while promoting trade and investment cooperation in the agricultural sector to not only serve the two countries' markets but also export globally." The two Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of the Work Plan on Agricultural Development Cooperation for the period 2024-2026 focusing on promoting cooperation in research, learning, experience exchange and short-term training in the fields of cultivation, livestock, aquaculture and irrigation./.
