Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed that Australia attaches importance to strengthening relations with Vietnam; emphasizing that upgrading relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership opens a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of attending the 44th-45th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and related Summits in Vientiane (Laos), on the morning of October 11, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sincerely thanked the warm and thoughtful reception that the Prime Minister and the Australian Government gave to the Vietnamese delegation during their official visit to Australia in March 2024; highly appreciated Australia being one of the first countries to promptly provide many necessities to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 (international name: storm Yagi).
The two Prime Ministers reviewed with satisfaction the positive and effective developments in the bilateral relationship in recent times; agreed to strengthen cooperation to make more positive and substantive contributions to peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
Discussing future cooperation, the two sides agreed to maintain delegation exchanges and high-level contacts; continue to effectively implement the Vietnam-Australia Economic Engagement Enhancement Strategy (EEES); promote cooperation in the fields of security-defense, labor, education-training, agriculture, science-technology, tourism, local connectivity, and people-to-people exchange, etc.
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to continue directing ministries and sectors of the two countries to effectively implement cooperation agreements reached by the two countries' leaders in recent times.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Australia continue to make active contributions to promoting dialogue, cooperation and trust building through ASEAN-led mechanisms, on the basis of respecting ASEAN’s central role and consulting with ASEAN, contributing to ensuring peace, stability and development in the region and the world, while continuing to support ASEAN’s efforts to promote narrowing the development gap and supporting sub-regional cooperation, including the Mekong sub-region./.
