In the newly released EGDI 2024 e- Government Survey Report by the United Nations, Vietnam was named for the first time in the group of countries with very high e-government development, ranking 71st globally, up 15 places compared to the 2022 assessment.
In the ASEAN region, Vietnam has surpassed Brunei to rise to 5th place, up 1 place compared to the 2022 assessment. Notably, compared to 55 countries in the lower-middle-income group, Vietnam is 1 of 5 countries with a very high EGDI 2024.
The EGDI is a synthesis of three main indexes: the telecommunications infrastructure index (TII), the human resources index (HCI) and the online services index (OSI). Through analysis by the National Digital Transformation Agency (Ministry of Information and Communications), the rankings in all three main indexes of Vietnam this year have increased in value and ranking, especially the ranking of human resources and the value of the telecommunications infrastructure index.
The United Nations conducts the assessment and ranking of the level of e-government and digital government development every two years with the aim of helping each country know its position in the global picture, promptly grasp trends to have a strategy for developing digital government in the future.
