Representing the Thai delegation, Mr. Apikit Ch.rojprasert thanked the reception and experience sharing in drug prevention and control from specialized units of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
On the afternoon of November 25, in Vung Tau city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, a delegation of the Thai Narcotics Control Commission led by Mr. Apikit Ch.rojprasert, Deputy Secretary General of the Commission, visited and worked with the Command of Coast Guard Region 3.
The visit and work is within the framework of coordination activities, visits, surveys and experience sharing on drug control at seaports between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Thai Narcotics Control Board.
Representing the Thai delegation, Mr. Apikit Ch.rojprasert thanked the reception and experience sharing in drug prevention and control from specialized units of the Vietnam Coast Guard, and pledged that Thailand will actively cooperate and share information with Vietnamese authorities in drug prevention and control.
Colonel Nguyen Duc Hieu, Deputy Commander of the Law of the Coast Guard Region 3, proposed that the Thai Narcotics Control Commission increase information exchange with the Vietnam Coast Guard, support the verification and investigation of news and subjects related to drug trafficking and transportation by sea; and study the establishment of a hotline between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Thai Coast Guard in crime prevention and control activities, especially drug crimes.
The two sides will further promote patrolling and controlling the sea areas bordering the two countries, combining to improve the effectiveness of detecting, preventing and promptly handling violations and crimes; coordinate in organizing training courses, sharing experiences in using modern equipment and supporting the improvement of drug control capacity by sea.
At the meeting, the delegation of the Thai Narcotics Control Commission was introduced to the functions and tasks of the Vietnam Coast Guard; the situation of drug crimes at sea in Vietnam and the outstanding results that the specialized anti-drug force of the Vietnam Coast Guard in general, and the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 in particular, have achieved recently.
The two sides exchanged and shared practical experiences in patrolling and controlling drugs by sea to contribute to pushing back the increasingly complicated drug problem in each country, in order to effectively implement the Agreement on drug control cooperation signed by Vietnam and Thailand in 2001.
