On November 16, about 2,000 leaders of leading businesses in the world and the Asia-Pacific region attended the APEC Business Summit 2023. With the theme "Creating economic opportunities: Sustainable. Inclusive. Resilient. Innovative", the conference included 20 discussion sessions, focusing on issues of top concern to the business community.

Pursuing sustainable development goals President Vo Van Thuong was one of the honored guests of the conference. Speaking at the orientation session on “Sustainable and inclusive growth”, President Vo Van Thuong pointed out four major contradictions of the world economy today, namely: The gap between rich and poor is widening and environmental destruction is becoming more serious; The trend of protectionism and separation is increasing strongly; Science and technology are developing rapidly but institutions are still limited to the national level, so there are unpredictable dangers; Economies pursue a growth model that encourages consumption, even over-consumption, but cannot mobilize enough resources for the Sustainable Development Goals.
The President emphasized that to continue pursuing the noble goals set, a new mindset is needed that is inclusive, harmonious and humane.
Accordingly, first , it is necessary to ensure the mutual relationship between economic growth, social equity and environmental protection; second, to maintain an open and connected world economy while ensuring the economic security of countries; third, global governance of technology (especially artificial intelligence and biotechnology) must not only aim at managing the development of technologies, but also address the economic, social, cultural and political consequences of this process; fourth , it is necessary to prioritize resources for sustainable and inclusive development goals.
According to the President, the business community has always been an important part of the APEC process, actively contributing to policy formulation and implementation as well as promoting new ideas and new thinking. The President called on the business community to accompany the State in implementing its commitment to sustainable development, pursuing long-term economic, environmental and social goals; increasing investment in science and technology, investing in people, and investing in building inclusive and resilient communities.
Developing for the benefit of the people Sharing with the Asia-Pacific business community Vietnam's development viewpoints and policies, President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that maintaining sustainable economic growth coupled with implementing progress, social justice and protecting the ecological environment, ensuring that all people can develop their potential, participate and equally enjoy the fruits of development is a requirement throughout Vietnam's development process. Economic growth coupled with implementing progress and social justice must be carried out immediately in each step, each policy and throughout the development process; not "sacrificing" progress and social justice and the environment to pursue pure economic growth.
With that viewpoint, Vietnam is synchronously implementing three groups of solutions. First, building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with active and proactive international integration; taking internal resources as fundamental, strategic and decisive, and external resources as important and breakthrough. Second, strengthening the management and effective use of resources; protecting the environment and responding to climate change; promoting green transformation towards global goals and commitments on climate. Third , creating an environment that encourages the poor and disadvantaged to strive, rise up on their own, integrate into the community, and eliminate discrimination in society.

The President affirmed that in order to realize the set development goals, Vietnam hopes that businesses will continue to accompany Vietnam in consulting, proposing new investment policies and ideas; transferring modern solutions, technologies, new economic models; and attracting investment capital and supporting development.
With the policy of taking quality, efficiency, high technology and environmental protection as the top criteria, Vietnam prioritizes attracting investment projects in industries and fields such as: Science - technology, innovation; Green economy, digital economy, circular economy, knowledge economy; Electronic components, electric cars; and Biotechnology, healthcare...
The President stressed that APEC's success can only be achieved on the basis of friendship and trust among members and the support of businesses and people, and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to join APEC members and the Asia-Pacific business community in building a bright future for all people.
Within the framework of APEC 2023, President Vo Van Thuong met and discussed with the US-APEC Business Alliance; attended a roundtable discussion connecting Vietnamese and US businesses and localities; received the Governor of California, USA; received leaders of Apple, Boeing, etc.
