What role do you think the logistics industry can play in the fight against climate change? I believe that the logistics industry plays a key role in the fight against climate change. At Vietnam SuperPort, we are taking decisive action, such as investing in electric vehicles and researching hydrogen technology for long-haul shipping. We are also leveraging the port’s strategic location to promote multimodal transport, focusing on environmentally friendly options such as inland waterways and rail. The port’s prime location allows us to increase our influence on regional and global supply chains. At the same time, we are actively working with our partners to optimize our operations for sustainable development. We are committed to leading the green logistics trend and setting new standards for sustainable logistics in Southeast Asia and beyond. Vietnam SuperPort has announced a target of achieving “Net Zero” emissions by 2040. Why is that? Our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040 is a strategic imperative that demonstrates our environmental responsibility, supports global sustainability efforts, and positions us as an industry leader. This goal will help us reduce regulatory risks, drive operational efficiencies, and unlock new economic opportunities in a growing green economy. This commitment will not only help Vietnam SuperPort improve its competitiveness, but also meet the growing expectations of our stakeholders. By moving towards a Net Zero emissions target, we are building long-term resilience to environmental and market challenges, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, and aligning our infrastructure towards a sustainable future. This goal also reflects our vision to be a sustainable, innovative, and responsible leader in the logistics industry, ensuring Vietnam SuperPort’s long-term success in a rapidly changing global environment. What steps will Vietnam SuperPort take to achieve this goal? To achieve this goal, Vietnam SuperPort adopts a comprehensive approach, including infrastructure transformation, energy transformation and transportation optimization. Key steps include integrating renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydrogen; fully transitioning to electric vehicles; enhancing multimodal connectivity to streamline logistics operations and reduce carbon footprint; and leveraging advanced technologies such as AI, IoT and automation to improve operational efficiency. We will design sustainable port infrastructure, develop low-carbon infrastructure, install electric transport systems from port to ship, offset remaining emissions with carbon credits and implement a rigorous emissions monitoring and reporting system. This strategy makes Vietnam SuperPort a leader in sustainable logistics port operations, significantly contributing to carbon emission reduction and setting a new standard for environmentally friendly logistics centers in the region. Vietnam SuperPort is pioneering sustainable development through digital transformation. Could you share some of Vietnam SuperPort's initiatives? Vietnam SuperPort will promote green transformation through a comprehensive digital ecosystem that optimizes routes, reduces carbon emissions and controls resource use. Our smart infrastructure investments will include smart lighting, energy-efficient air conditioning and renewable energy integration, contributing to efficient energy use. We will also develop a data analytics system and ESG management platform, through which environmental performance can be monitored and optimized, allowing for tracking of carbon emissions, identifying areas for improvement and measuring progress, ensuring compliance with global standards. What are the challenges in the Net Zero transition and how will Vietnam SuperPort overcome them? There are many challenges in the Net Zero transition, including technological barriers, financial considerations, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement. To overcome these challenges, we have implemented a comprehensive strategy, including promoting strategic partnerships with technology providers as well as public-private partnerships to access advanced green technologies. This approach allows us to balance large upfront investments with long-term cost savings through renewable energy infrastructure and digital optimization tools. The key is to improve operational efficiency and global competitiveness while minimizing environmental impact.
