On the evening of August 29, at Ho Guom Theater, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife chaired the ceremony to celebrate the 79th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024).
Attending the ceremony were former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; former National Assembly Chairmen Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong; Politburo members, Party Central Committee Secretaries, leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders of departments, ministries, branches and central agencies... On the international side, there was Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, Head of the Diplomatic Corps; Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires, and Heads of International Organizations in Hanoi. In his speech, General Secretary and President To Lam recalled that on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly announcing to the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. From a backward economy, Vietnam has risen to become one of the top 40 leading economies, with a trade scale in the Top 20 countries in the world, an important link in 16 free trade agreements (FTAs) connecting with 60 key economies in the region and globally. From a besieged and isolated country, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 193 countries in the world, has strategic partnerships and comprehensive partnerships with 30 countries, including all members of the United Nations Security Council (UN), major countries, and is an active member of over 70 regional and international organizations. The General Secretary and President said that in the context of the world situation, there are opportunities, but also many difficulties and challenges. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, promoting the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, national pride", taking great national unity and pure international solidarity as the driving force, strongly mobilizing people's strength, closely linking the Party's will with the people's will as the foundation. The General Secretary and President emphasized that Vietnam will definitely enter a new era, an era of national growth, constantly striving to contribute more to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world. The General Secretary and President believes that Vietnam and its international partners will overcome all challenges, seize opportunities to join hands in building a world of peaceful and sustainable development, and shape a fair international political and economic order, based on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.
