Target of 10 USD billionaires by 2030 On May 9, the Government issued a Resolution on the action program to implement Resolution 41 of the Politburo on building and promoting the role of Vietnamese entrepreneurs in the new era. Accordingly, by 2030, Vietnam strives to have at least 10 USD billionaires and 5 most powerful entrepreneurs in Asia as voted by prestigious organizations. Currently, there are 2 prestigious organizations in the world that vote for entrepreneurs in the world: Forbes and Bloomberg. According to Forbes' list of USD billionaires, Vietnam currently has 6 people. They are Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong (Chairman of Vingroup, CEO of VinFast with 4.4 billion USD), Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao (Chairman of VietJet with 2.8 billion USD), Mr. Tran Dinh Long (Chairman of Hoa Phat Group HPG, 2.6 billion USD), Mr. Ho Hung Anh (Chairman of Techcombank, 1.7 billion USD), Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang (Chairman of Masan Group, 1.2 billion USD), Mr. Tran Ba Duong (Thaco with 1.2 billion USD). A total of 6 Vietnamese USD billionaires have assets according to Forbes' 2024 ranking of 13.9 billion USD, up from 12.6 billion USD at the same time last year.

As of May 9, according to Forbes' real-time calculations, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong had 4.4 billion USD, Ms. Phuong Thao had 3 billion USD, Mr. Tran Dinh Long had 2.5 billion USD, Mr. Ho Hung Anh had 1.8 billion USD, Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang had 1.1 billion USD and Mr. Tran Ba Duong had 1.2 billion USD. Thus, the ranking of billionaires has almost no change. Regarding assets, Ms. Thao and Mr. Hung Anh recorded a slight increase. According to a recent report by Knight Frank (UK), the number of super-rich people (owning assets of 30 million USD or more) in Vietnam by the end of 2023 was 752 people. According to this organization, by 2028, Vietnam will have 978 super-rich people. Also according to Knight Frank, the growth rate of super-rich people in Vietnam is recorded as quite high compared to the world. Vietnam's middle class is growing strongly. Which businessmen will join the list of USD billionaires? But it should also be noted that, in reality, Vietnam has many famous businessmen and is considered super rich, even USD billionaires but is not on any rankings, such as real estate "boss" Nguyen Thi Nga (BRG Group), Mr. Vu Van Tien (Geleximco), "king of luxury goods" Johnathan Hanh Nguyen... Other promising names that can be on the list of USD billionaires, provided that their assets increase 2-3 times, include: Truong Gia Binh FPT, Mr. Dao Huu Huyen (Duc Giang Chemicals), Nguyen Van Dat (Phat Dat Real Estate)... In the banking industry, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga is a very familiar name. She is currently Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank - SeABank (SSB), Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of BRG Group, former Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Intimex Vietnam Joint Stock Company, owning a series of golf courses, hotels... As of the end of 2023, Ms. Nga owned more than 92 million SSB shares, equivalent to nearly 3.7%. People related to Ms. Nga hold nearly 317.1 million SSB shares, equivalent to about 12.7% of shares. In addition to SeABank, Ms. Nga also participates in the board of directors/executive board of a series of enterprises in the BRG Group "ecosystem" such as BRG Group, Intimex Vietnam, Theater Hotel Company Limited, Thang Loi Hotel, Hanoi Tourism Service Joint Stock Company... BRG Group is an enterprise that owns a "huge" real estate block in Vietnam. In particular, the Nhat Tan - Hanoi smart city super project invested by BRG has a total investment of more than 4 billion USD, with a plan to build a 108-storey financial tower, the tallest in Vietnam. Ms. Nga and her family own many golf courses and resort hotels. Currently, BRG owns King's Island golf course in Dong Mo, BRG Ruby Tree Golf Resort (Do Son, Hai Phong) and Legend Hill Golf Resort (Soc Son, Hanoi), Hilton Hanoi Opera hotel... Since 2022, Mr. Bui Thanh Nhon, Chairman of No Va Real Estate Investment Group Joint Stock Company (Novaland), has been on Forbes' list of USD billionaires with assets at the end of March 2022 of 2.9 billion USD. A USD billionaire who slipped off the Forbes list in November 2022 was Mr. Bui Thanh Nhon after Novaland (NVL) shares fell sharply. Novaland shares peaked at 90%, down to 11,000 VND/share. At the end of 2023, NVL shares recovered to VND22,000-23,000/share. But now this stock is back to VND13,750/share. In the past 2 years, the ownership ratio at Novaland of the group of shareholders related to the owner Bui Thanh Nhon has decreased sharply by about 20%, from over 60% to 40%, equivalent to a decrease of about 400 million shares (out of a total of more than 1.95 billion outstanding shares). In total, the assets of this group, calculated at the current NVL price of VND13,750/share, are just under VND11,000 billion. This means that for Mr. Nhon to return to the list of USD billionaires, NVL shares must increase by about 3 times. Novaland is pushing for restructuring, handling huge debts, and resolving legal issues for major projects such as Aqua City, NovaWorld Phan Thiet... There are still many difficulties, but there is still a possibility that Vietnam's No. 2 real estate giant will recover in the next half decade. Mr. Nhon can still return to the list of USD billionaires. A name with the potential to be on the Forbes or/and Bloomberg list if nothing changes could be Mr. Do Anh Tuan, Chairman of Sunshine Group Corporation (KSF) and Sunshine Homes Development Corporation (SSH)... Mr. Do Anh Tuan currently has assets converted from stocks worth VND 23,400 billion (equivalent to about USD 920 million).
