On August 23, at the National Convention Center (Hanoi), the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day (AI4VN) 2024 program took place, with the theme "Unlocking the power of artificial intelligence". The event was directed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and co-organized by VnExpress electronic newspaper.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said that AI is developing rapidly and has great potential for socio-economic development. Recently, many agencies and businesses have witnessed the achievements of this technology. AI4VN 2024 is organized to create a forum to exchange and discuss the great potential of AI in life, while identifying the challenges that this technology brings.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Renée Deschamps, Charge d'Affaires of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, said that this year's theme "Unlocking the Power of Artificial Intelligence" is in line with the common mission of Vietnam and Australia.
According to Ms. Renée Deschamps, Vietnam is in an important phase, which is digital transformation. Currently, AI not only helps change life but also further expands development opportunities. In 2021, Vietnam approved the use of AI applications in work. Australian experts have worked with many different stakeholders in the ecosystem to realize this national strategy.
Mr. Marc Evans Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam, said that the US and Vietnam have close cooperation in the field of AI, typically the upcoming one-year anniversary of this strategic relationship. “This is proof that Vietnam is strongly committed to using AI ethically and responsibly,” Mr. Marc Evans Knapper emphasized; at the same time, he affirmed that AI is also a global revolution that brings many values to society.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Choi Youngsam, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam, shared that AI4VN is of great significance when promoting sustainable development together. Countries have many things to solve together such as environmental issues, establishing new ethical standards; building high-quality human resources. “Korea is ready to support Vietnam in training through ODA projects. We also support global multilateral cooperation, together establishing new AI standards. Today, we will share the potential and challenges of AI,” said Ambassador Choi Youngsam.
Speaking at the event, Head of the Central Economic Commission, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that AI has become one of the key technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, playing an important role in changing the world and human life. AI is being strongly promoted in many countries with the potential to be applied in many different fields and industries.
In 2023, we witnessed breakthroughs related to foundational technologies such as Large Language Models, Generative Artificial Intelligence and outstanding applications based on these platforms. Recognizing the importance of artificial intelligence, over the past time, the Party and State of Vietnam have always paid attention and issued many specific policies and orientations to promote research, cooperation, development and application of AI technology.
The Prime Minister has also issued the National Strategy on AI Research, Development and Application by 2030 with the goal of making AI an important technology sector in Vietnam. The strategy aims to make Vietnam a center for innovation, development of AI solutions and applications in the ASEAN region by 2030.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, after 3 years of implementing the National Strategy on AI research, development and application, Vietnam has achieved some encouraging initial results. AI technology is contributing to increasing labor productivity and improving the quality of human life. However, the rapid development of AI also poses many challenges in management and administration not only in Vietnam but also in all countries in the world.
“Vietnam always affirms that the development and application of AI must take national interests, the interests of society and the people as the center, and technology must not be abused to infringe upon these legitimate rights and interests,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang suggested that through the AI4VN program, everyone should cooperate, share information, experiences, initiatives, solutions on policy making and management, experiences in promoting research and application activities on AI, experiences in forming and developing high-quality human resources to contribute to promoting the development of a sustainable AI ecosystem in Vietnam.
In the morning of the same day, the AI4VN 2024 program had four workshop sessions, covering the following topics: AI Automation - Automation and AI; Application of artificial intelligence in small and medium enterprises in Vietnam; Data center and AI Cloud; Application of AI in the healthcare sector.
