Vietnam - Philippines soon bring two-way trade turnover to 10 billion USD
At the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, the two sides agreed to promote the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, including the exchange of experiences between ruling parties and people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders affirmed their determination to soon bring the two-way trade turnover to 10 billion USD through measures to facilitate the opening of markets for each other's key export products, including agricultural products, food, and rice trade; deepen cooperation in areas where both sides have potential and strengths such as agriculture, industry, high technology, tourism, marine economic development, education and training, climate change, etc.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to provide rice strategically, long-term, and stably at reasonable prices to the Philippines, thereby contributing to helping the Philippines ensure food security. Appreciating Vietnam's goodwill, the Philippine President affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of the Philippines; hoping that both sides will promote the role of private enterprises in economic and investment cooperation.
Discussing the regional and international situation, the two leaders agreed to enhance coordination and consultation, contributing to strengthening solidarity and the central role of ASEAN. Sharing common concerns about the challenges in the East Sea, the two sides affirmed to persevere in the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, UNCLOS 1982, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety of navigation and aviation.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong to Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos to visit Vietnam this year.
Encouraging Malaysian businesses to increase investment in Vietnam
Also on the afternoon of May 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the occasion of attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. At the meeting, the two sides agreed to maintain the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially in 2023 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973 - 2023).
The two sides affirmed their determination to promote trade growth through effectively exploiting cooperation potentials, increasing import and export of products of both countries' potential and strengths such as agricultural and aquatic products, rice trade, food industry, electronic components, etc.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Malaysia to create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods and services to access the Malaysian market, including Halal products; encourage Malaysian enterprises to increase investment in Vietnam; create favorable conditions and environment for Vietnamese workers in Malaysia on the basis of the Labor Cooperation Agreement signed in March 2022; and establish a consultation and management mechanism on the sea.
The Malaysian Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Malaysia in the region; looked forward to the visit to Malaysia by President Vo Van Thuong later this year and hoped to visit Vietnam soon; affirmed that he would continue to pay attention to directing the further promotion of cooperation with Vietnam, including maritime cooperation; agreed to consider establishing a hotline to facilitate the resolution of issues arising at sea.
