Responding to reporters at a press conference on the afternoon of September 19, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that Vietnamese representative agencies in China and some neighboring areas have urgently worked with local agencies to inform and update the situation of storm Soulik.
At the same time, local authorities have been asked to support Vietnamese fishing boats operating at sea and unable to return to the mainland to have temporary shelter to avoid the storm, Ms. Pham Thu Hang informed.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister has signed Official Dispatch 98 directing the focus on responding to the tropical depression that is likely to strengthen into a storm and floods. In particular, the dispatch clearly states the implementation of key tasks, drastic and effective response to Storm No. 4 (international name Soulik) that is entering the East Sea.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sent a diplomatic note to diplomatic missions of other countries in Hanoi to closely coordinate information and promptly report to the country on necessary support measures in case Vietnamese fishermen or boats need urgent rescue.
Also at the press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam always appreciates the valuable solidarity, encouragement, visits and timely support of the international community and the overseas Vietnamese community to the Vietnamese government and people to join hands to overcome the huge damage caused by natural disasters and storms and floods, thereby quickly restoring production, business and focusing on growth.
Many countries and international organizations have sent letters, telegrams, messages of condolences, as well as direct and indirect financial support, accommodation equipment, rescue and essential supplies... to Vietnam to overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi as soon as possible.
Along with that, in the spirit of mutual love and support as well as the appeal of domestic authorities, the Vietnamese community at home and abroad has donated money, equipment and necessary necessities to directly and indirectly help people in provinces and cities affected by Storm No. 3, helping people to soon stabilize their lives.
"So far, the overseas Vietnamese community has donated and supported 13 billion VND and will continue to donate more to support localities and people suffering losses," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
