Recently, BTEC FPT British College organized a workshop on “Solutions for human resource development for the wave of microchip investment in Vietnam”. The workshop attracted the attention of many experts and businesses in the industry. At the same time, BTEC FPT officially announced its joining and becoming a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Industry Association (HSIA).
The workshop was attended by Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Technology Association, who is also the Senior Director of Technical Applications of Synopsys Vietnam; Master Le Huynh Lan - General Director of Mantis Vietnam Group; Mr. Vu Chi Thanh - Principal of FPT Polytechnic College - BTEC FPT; Dr. Nguyen Minh Son - Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
At the workshop, experts and representatives of participating units contributed multi-dimensional perspectives, as well as shared about the training roadmap and the need to develop the semiconductor technology industry in the face of the strong wave of investment in Vietnamese microchips.
Representatives of units operating in the semiconductor sector commented that Vietnam has two strengths to participate in this industry. Those are the design and packaging stages. The design sector requires a lot of human resources to directly attract FDI enterprises moving into Vietnam. When the semiconductor industry develops to a certain threshold, Vietnam is forced to train more human resources and professional engineers to position the country's strengths in the semiconductor value chain ecosystem.
“To develop this field, training units need to develop the school and business ecosystem. It can be said that the connection between training units and businesses plays an important role in the process of updating new training programs, as well as helping students have the opportunity to intern and practice so that they are not surprised when starting work,” said Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Technology Association.
Mr. Vu Chi Thanh, Principal of FPT Polytechnic College, said that in order to fully exploit the potential that Vietnam has, it is necessary to focus on developing quality human resources to prepare for the new wave of microchip investment in Vietnam. “As the first college to train in semiconductor technology, BTEC FPT has been striving to lead the trend of training and developing human resources in a field considered the “backbone” of the technology era,” said Mr. Thanh.
To rapidly increase the quantity and quality of semiconductor human resources, experts say: The State needs to have specific policies and regulations to encourage businesses to invest in research and development of semiconductor manufacturing facilities. In addition, semiconductor training units need to promote cooperation with international businesses and corporations operating in the semiconductor field to help training and research activities in the semiconductor technology field update new technologies and build training programs that are closest to reality.
In addition to the seminar discussing solutions for developing high-quality human resources with the wave of foreign investment in the semiconductor industry, the event also included a ceremony to admit BTEC FPT as a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Technology Association.
The Ho Chi Minh City Semiconductor Technology Association was established in 2013, gathering experts and prestigious enterprises in the semiconductor field and having the ability to connect the State with scientists and domestic and foreign enterprises in the field of semiconductor technology. This opens up opportunities for BTEC FPT to cooperate with organizations operating in the fields of research, training, dissemination, application, production, business and services in the semiconductor industry in Ho Chi Minh City, to help each other in training, research, exchange of experiences, improve professional knowledge in the semiconductor industry, contributing to the goal of developing science and technology.
