On the evening of September 3 in Manila, Philippines, Vietnam was honored by WTA in the category of Asia's Leading Destination 2024, the fourth consecutive time it has won this title. In addition, Vietnam also won two other awards: Heritage Destination and Asia's Leading Natural Destination.
Many provinces and tourist destinations in Vietnam were also highly appreciated and awarded important prizes by WTA. Hanoi won the award for Short Break Destination and Asia's Leading City for the third consecutive time.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City was honored as "Asia's leading destination" in two categories: Business Travel, Festivals and Events, and Asia's Leading Tourism Management City (in 2023, this award belonged to Hanoi).
Ha Giang was recognized for the first time as Asia's Leading Local Cultural Destination. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province was named the Leading Local Tourism Management Agency; Hoi An was named the Cultural City for the fifth time, Van Don International Airport was named the Leading Local Airport; Vietravel received three awards for travel and tour operations.
Like Ha Giang, Ha Nam is also a new name appearing at WTA this year and was honored in the category of Asia's Leading Emerging Tourist City. Tam Chuc Tourist Area won the award for Asia's Leading Cultural Tourist Destination for the second consecutive time. Sun World Ba Na Hills is the leading theme park. Moc Chau received the award for the second consecutive time as the World's Leading Local Natural Destination.
Dozens of luxury resorts and hotels in provinces and cities in Vietnam were also honored. InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort won the Green Resort award; Capella Hanoi is a luxury boutique hotel and Banyan Tree Lang Co is Asia's leading luxury coastal resort.
This year, the WTA Asia region awarded Vietnam nearly 40 awards. In 2023, Vietnam was honored in 45 categories.
The World Travel Awards (WTA) was established in 1993 and is a prestigious award recognized worldwide and is considered the "Oscar of the tourism industry". The award is held annually to honor outstanding destinations, tourism management agencies, and quality tourism service providers, including many categories such as airlines, hotels, resorts, travel companies, and tourist destinations. This year is the 31st time WTA has taken place.
The WTA awards are presented at three levels from highest to lowest: world (usually announced at the end of the year), regional and individual countries.
