The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has just announced the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, in which Vietnam is one of 46 countries ranked in group 1.
The report shows that countries around the world are stepping up their cybersecurity efforts but stronger actions are needed to deal with growing risks.

The GCI 2024 assesses countries' efforts based on five criteria, reflecting national cybersecurity commitments: legal, technical, organizational, capacity development and cooperation.
ITU also changed the way it evaluates to better focus on each country's progress in its security commitments and its impact.
Countries are classified into 5 groups, of which group 1 is the highest group, consisting of 46 countries, playing the role of "setting an example".
ITU assessed that Group 1 countries all had significant progress compared to the most recent GCI version in 2021.
Vietnam is in group 1 with a total score of 99.74, in which four criteria achieve a maximum of 20 points: legal measures, technical measures, organizational measures and coordination measures. The capacity development criterion achieves 19.74 points.
Building trust in the digital world is paramount, according to ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. She sees progress on the GCI 2024 as a sign that we must focus our efforts on ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can manage security risks in an increasingly complex digital world.
The GCI was first published by ITU in 2015, to help countries identify areas for improvement and encourage countries to take action to develop capacity in each criterion.
The GCI is constantly evolving to adapt to changing risks, priorities and resources, providing the most comprehensive picture of each country's cybersecurity measures.
