General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia is an important milestone in Vietnam-Malaysia relations, contributing to strengthening the foundation of political trust between the two countries.

According to VNA special correspondent, at noon on November 21 (local time), at the Prime Minister's Office, Putrajaya Administrative Center, Malaysia, the welcoming ceremony for General Secretary To Lam and his wife on an official visit to Malaysia, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife from November 21-23, was solemnly held according to the highest protocol for a Head of State on an official visit.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife welcomed General Secretary To Lam and his wife at the car door and invited them to step up to the podium.

The military band played the Vietnamese and Malaysian national anthems. Then, the head of the Guard of Honor reported and invited General Secretary To Lam to inspect the Guard of Honor.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by Vietnamese and Malaysian officials; along with the Ambassador and Head of the Foreign Representative Office in Malaysia. Afterwards, at the Prime Minister's Office, General Secretary To Lam signed the guestbook.

At the end of the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary To Lam and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim attended a small meeting, then held official talks; witnessed the exchange of bilateral cooperation documents; and spoke to the press after the meeting.

Vietnam and Malaysia established diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973. The relationship between the two countries continues to develop well on the basis of the Strategic Partnership established in August 2015.

The two sides regularly exchange delegations and high-level contacts at all levels and channels, and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Malaysia is a close neighbor, an important strategic partner in Southeast Asia, and a priority in Vietnam's foreign policy.

The official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Malaysia this time is an important milestone in the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship, contributing to consolidating the foundation of political trust between the two countries, demonstrating the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to always attach importance to and wish to further strengthen relations with neighboring and regional countries, including Malaysia.

Vietnam wishes to work with Malaysia to bring the relationship of trust and effective cooperation between the two countries to a new stage at a higher and more practical level, meeting the development requirements of the two countries in the new period; actively and responsibly work with Malaysia and other countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to build a united and strong ASEAN Community.
