The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate closely with Cambodia and other countries in the Mekong River basin in the use, management, protection and sustainable development of the Mekong River.
On the morning of May 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, who led a high-ranking delegation from the Royal Government of Cambodia to Vietnam to attend the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the historic Dien Bien Phu victory was a common victory of the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Vietnam always appreciates the valuable assistance of the generations of leaders and people of Cambodia and Laos to the revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese people.
Vietnam always gives high priority to consolidating and strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia in all fields, in which the Party continues to orient the bilateral relationship to develop well, on the basis of solidarity, friendship and respect for each other's interests...
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate closely with Cambodia and other countries in the Mekong River basin in the use, management, protection and sustainable development of the Mekong River on the basis of the Mekong Agreement and regulations of the Mekong River Commission, ensuring the harmony of interests of riparian countries for the sustainable development of the basin and the interests of the people in the basin.
The Prime Minister hopes that the Cambodian side will continue to pay attention to and remove difficulties for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia, including creating conditions for Cambodians of Vietnamese origin to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local community, and serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries; at the same time, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises investing and doing business in Cambodia.
Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun expressed his honor to attend the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory. This is an important event for all three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Cambodia attaches importance to promoting relations with Vietnam, considering solidarity as a common victory for the two countries.
Vietnam - Cambodia relations have developed strongly in all fields in recent times, the two sides maintain exchanges of high-level delegations and all levels, trade cooperation is a bright spot with trade turnover in the first 3 months of 2024 reaching nearly 3 billion USD, up 14% over the same period in 2023; security and defense cooperation continues to be strengthened, people-to-people exchanges are maintained regularly to prevent hostile forces from taking advantage of and sabotaging relations between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to continue to increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts; coordinate to promote the effective implementation of the agreements reached; promote economic cooperation and connectivity, especially the economy in the Vietnam-Cambodia border area, together aiming to achieve higher trade turnover in the coming years.
The two countries firmly adhere to the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use one country's territory to harm the security and interests of the other; and strive to resolve the demarcation and marker planting of the remaining 16% of the border in order to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries.
