April 7th is chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO) as World Health Day. Each year, World Health Day has a specific theme to raise awareness and motivate countries to take action in addressing global health challenges.
In 2025, WHO chose the theme "Healthy Start, Bright Future" with the aim of encouraging countries and the international community to strengthen health protection for mothers and children, in order to minimize the risk of illness and death in this group.
Vietnam has been making strong efforts to protect the rights of women and children, and to implement sustainable development goals, especially in maternal and child health care.
Over the years, the Vietnamese Government, through Resolutions, National Strategies and Programs, has strongly directed this work. The Ministry of Health has also implemented many action plans and projects, achieving impressive results.
The maternal mortality rate has decreased more than 5 times, from 233/100,000 live births in 1990 to 44/100,000 in 2023; the infant mortality rate has decreased more than 4 times, from 44‰ to 11.6‰; the under-5 mortality rate has decreased nearly 4 times, from 58‰ to 16.9‰; the child malnutrition rate has also decreased sharply from 53‰ to 9.7‰...
Vietnam is considered one of six countries in the world that have met the standards for reducing maternal mortality rates, and is highly appreciated by the international community./.
