The Ministry of Industry and Trade will co-ordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize the first Fruit Festival in Beijing, with the cooperation of the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association and Chinese partners.

With the theme “Vietnamese Fruits – Four Seasons of Deliciousness”, the Festival will be one of the important trade promotion events with the Chinese market for fresh fruits and vegetables and processed products from fruits and vegetables that have been officially imported into China.

The festival includes a national pavilion with an area of 200-500m2 at the Tan Phat Dia Agricultural Products Distribution Center, Phong Dai District, Beijing City. This is the largest fruit wholesale market in Beijing, distributing all kinds of fruits from around the world officially imported into China. The center not only serves the needs of more than 22 million people in the capital Beijing but also neighboring localities such as Hubei, Tianjin... The center gathers many prestigious fruit distribution enterprises with large consumption in China, equipped with cold storage infrastructure, modern transportation and preservation equipment for fresh fruits.

The Festival's national pavilion is expected to have 12 islands displaying specialized products of fruits and sweet potatoes that have been officially exported to China and 1 island of general products for Vietnamese businesses to display, introduce and serve visitors to experience the products.

The promotional message of Vietnamese fruits expected to be brought to the capital of a country of over 1.4 billion people this time is expected to be "Vietnamese fruits - Four seasons of deliciousness" (Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation: Vietnam Water Fruit - Four seasons of deliciousness") with the intention of promoting the class of Vietnamese fruits that are delicious in all four seasons, with a unique taste and flavor compared to fruits that are not grown in the special climate and soil like in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the Festival, there will be direct trading activities between Vietnamese enterprises and Chinese fruit importers and distributors, product experience programs, and seminars on the export potential of Vietnamese fruit.

For many years, China has been Vietnam's largest trading partner. The total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China accounts for 1/4 of Vietnam's total import-export turnover with the world. In the opposite direction, Vietnam is one of China's largest trading partners with the world, and is China's largest partner in ASEAN.

According to statistics from China Customs, the total import and export turnover of goods from Vietnam to China in the first 7 months of 2024 reached 145.07 billion USD, up 20.9% over the same period; of which, Vietnam's exports to China reached 53.9 billion USD, up 18.7% and imports from China reached 91.1 billion USD, up 22.3%.

On the contrary, according to statistics from Vietnam Customs, in the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam's exports to China reached 32.6 billion USD, up 5% over the same period, and imports from this country were worth 79.6 billion USD, up 35.6% over the same period.

Thus, trade activities between Vietnam and China still recorded high growth, and the results of trade cooperation between the two countries recorded stability and development compared to most partners having trade relations with China.

However, in recent times, Vietnamese fruits have mostly been exported through border trade, informal trade and directly to the southern provinces of China that border Vietnam such as Guangxi and Yunnan. To develop sustainable exports and gain higher value, and penetrate deeper into the Chinese market, Vietnamese fruit exports need to shift strongly to official trade combined with image and brand promotion.

Beijing is the capital, the political, economic and cultural center of the country, a market with high value and great demand. Organizing the Fruit Festival in Beijing to promote the brand and image of delicious and nutritious tropical fruits of Vietnam will attract the attention and participation of many Chinese and international enterprises. This will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese producers and suppliers to introduce and promote the brand and image of typical fruit products, as well as to find customers and increase trade activities. This event will open up the basis and experience to organize specialized festivals more regularly not only in Beijing but also in the central and northern regions of China to connect and expand the export of Vietnamese fruits to this market.
