During his official visit to Indonesia, on the afternoon of August 7, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Also attending the reception on the Indonesian side were Chairman of the People's Representative Council (Lower House) Puan Maharani, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Chief of the Cabinet Office Pramono Anung.
President Joko Widodo warmly welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of the National Assembly Chairman's visit to Indonesia on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership (2013-2023), which will help create momentum for the two countries to develop deeper and more substantive cooperation; emphasizing that the Indonesia-Vietnam Strategic Partnership not only brings benefits to the two countries but also contributes to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue respectfully conveyed to the Indonesian President the warm regards and best wishes of health from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; saying that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was very impressed with the special memories during his visit to Indonesia in 2017.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to the strategic partnership with Indonesia; emphasizing the friendly neighborly relationship and good cooperation between the two countries established by President Sukarno and President Ho Chi Minh and nurtured by generations of leaders of the two countries.
The National Assembly Chairman congratulated Indonesia on its 78th National Day and firmly believed that Indonesia would continue to reap many achievements in all aspects, with an increasingly high role and position in the world.
The National Assembly Chairman informed President Joko Widodo of the results of his official visit to Indonesia and his attendance at the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-44), saying that the two countries' parliaments have signed a cooperation agreement to further promote parliamentary relations, contributing practically to strengthening relations between the two countries, and wishing to upgrade the bilateral relations to a new level.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the rapid and effective development of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership in all key areas. In particular, trade cooperation has made great strides; two-way trade turnover in 2022 reached more than 14 billion USD, surpassing 2021 and reaching the highest level ever. Regarding major directions to continue promoting bilateral relations in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue promoting delegation exchanges, high-level contacts and contacts at all levels and channels; and effectively implementing signed agreements.
The two sides agreed to strive to increase two-way trade to over 15 billion USD by 2028 and towards a more balanced direction. The Indonesian President agreed with the Speaker of the National Assembly that the two sides should strengthen the maintenance of existing supply chains, cooperate closely to form new supply chains that are strategic and where both sides have strengths, and strengthen cooperation in the maritime, fisheries and new areas such as digital transformation and equitable energy transition.
President Joko Widodo thanked Vietnam for supporting Indonesia's role as ASEAN Chair in 2023 and proposed continuing coordination to strengthen ASEAN's central role and implement the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman conveyed the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong to the Indonesian President to visit Vietnam this year.
