On January 17, in response to a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the United States removing Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang emphasized:
Vietnam welcomes the decision of the US Government on January 14 to Cuba removed from the US State Department's "list of countries believed to sponsor terrorism" along with several steps toward easing the embargo on Cuba.
Vietnam's consistent stance is to strongly support efforts towards normalizing Cuba-US relations, including the US completely ending its embargo against Cuba in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, for the legitimate interests of the Cuban people, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Americas and the world.
