Youth Theater and SangsangMaru Theater (Korea) collaborated to stage the children's musical "Child of the Goblin". The first performance will be on August 4-5 at the Youth Theater.

Within the framework of the activities of the "Vietnam - Korea Cultural Exchange Program 2022" to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea (1992-2022), with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Youth Theater and SangsangMaru Theater (Korea) have implemented a cooperation project to stage a musical for children called Troll's child.
Based on the short story of the same name by Selma Lagerlöf - a Swedish writer, the first female author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, The Goblin's Child is a story about Leah - a child who lost her parents and was left in the forest of the Trolls (giant goblins in Norse mythology). There is a deep animosity between the Trolls and humans and they never live together. The appearance of the human child has caused many doubts and arguments between the Troll father and the Troll mother.
Through conflicts and differences, with the very “human” love of the Troll, Leah finally became a member of the goblin family. The play is a story about motherly love, sacred family affection, not only between blood relatives, but also brings a meaningful message: “As long as we open our hearts and overcome differences, we can all become real families to each other”.
The project of co-producing the musical The Goblin's Child is being carried out by the Youth Theater and SangsangMaru Theater in 2022 - 2023 with the participation of Korean theater experts, directors, musicians, choreographers, actors and artists of the Youth Theater.
The show is staged according to the musical standards that are very popular in Korea and around the world. Korean musicians have composed songs that are sophisticated, moving and extremely emotional, along with the collaboration of Vietnamese singers performing in Vietnamese lyrics. This will bring a new, interesting and attractive work to young audiences in Vietnam in 2023 and the following years, because the work has been very successful in Korea and was selected by the producer to introduce for the first time in Vietnam.
The musical's first performance on August 4-5, 2023 at the Youth Theater will be accompanied by educational exhibitions, souvenir photos and a display of gifts related to the play for young audiences.
Meritorious Artist Si Tien - Director of the Youth Theater shared : "With the mission of a National Theater for children and youth, the Youth Theater is especially interested in this potential cooperation project. The exchange, sharing and co-creation activities between the two sides will bring opportunities to learn from experience, approaches and enhance creative thinking for Vietnamese artists.
With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the two countries, through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Program on Cultural Promotion 2023 sponsored by the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), this cooperation project has a positive meaning in proactively introducing to the audience a type of musical that is still quite new in Vietnam.
With a partner with a solid position in the Korean professional cultural industry chain, we believe that the project will bring a new breeze to performing activities for children in Vietnam, contributing to bringing the appearance of performing arts for children closer to contemporary art trends in the world."
According to Mr. Um Dongyoul - Director of SangsangMaru Theater, although the friendship between Vietnam and Korea has achieved great achievements and milestones in the fields of economy, education, sports, tourism..., cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation activities have not yet developed to their full potential, especially in the field of children's theater performances.
"We expect that the cooperation between SangsangMaru and the Youth Theatre will become a pioneer in the journey to build a foundation for the development of children's musicals in Vietnam, with the Youth Theatre being an important partner. In addition, it will also contribute to the development of the performing culture of both countries through co-creation, co-production, co-organization of exchanges, performances and exchanges of art education programs in the future. We have agreed to actively learn, exchange, overcome differences, and work towards a bright future for young audiences in both our countries," emphasized Mr. Um Dongyoul.
