Indonesian scholar Veeramalla Anjaiah said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the 42nd ASEAN Summit from May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo (Indonesia) and related activities affirmed that Vietnam actively, proactively and responsibly contributed to strengthening ASEAN solidarity and effectively responding to challenges.
This senior researcher of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) recalled that, attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized Vietnam's efforts and desire to cooperate with other ASEAN member countries in building ASEAN's identity, values, vitality and prestige, as well as deepening relations with ASEAN countries.
According to Mr. Anjaiah, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended ASEAN meetings with the goal and aspiration of stronger development. The head of the Vietnamese government emphasized that strengthening solidarity and unity must be a key task of an independent and self-reliant ASEAN; called for efforts to promote the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement and regional connectivity.
To realize the goal and aspiration for peace, security, stability and prosperity, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on ASEAN member countries to join hands to build a spirit of self-reliance and solidarity, unleash development resources, and initiate breakthrough initiatives to build the ASEAN Community, helping ASEAN to become the growth center of the region and the world. The Vietnamese Prime Minister's proposals have received support and high appreciation from ASEAN leaders.
Mr. Anjaiah assessed that Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship is important, in the context that the world is facing difficult times due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, high inflation, global recession and US-China tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.
