Compared to the 4G network launched more than 7 years ago, the user growth rate of the 5G network is twice as high. Accordingly, the milestone of 3 million Viettel 4G customers was reached after 1 month of official commercialization.
Viettel's 5G network is deployed according to the "do nothing" orientation. Accordingly, users will not need to change SIM or buy a package, but only need to own a 5G-supported device to be able to experience Viettel's 5G network.
Viettel Telecom said that although it is not mandatory to register for a package, the system has recorded hundreds of thousands of 5G package registrations in just the past 2 weeks.
Most customers switch to 5G packages to experience superior speeds and enjoy special offers from Viettel. At the same time, in case customers move to areas with only 4G waves, they can still use the service normally.
5G is a new technology, widely deployed worldwide since 2020. At the beginning of its provision, network operators around the world prioritized deploying 5G in areas with developed social life, focusing on customers who own 5G devices and have a high demand for Internet access.
Pioneering countries in 5G deployment such as the UK, US, Japan, South Korea, etc. also focus on 5G coverage in urban areas, then expand to rural areas.
Besides Viettel, two other major carriers, Vinaphone and Mobifone, are also preparing to join the 5G race (Photo: Trung Nam).
Regarding the roadmap for 5G coverage in Vietnam, a Viettel representative said that the network is prioritizing deployment in urban areas. Accordingly, more than 6,000 5G broadcasting stations have been installed, covering 95% of the outdoor population.
By 2025, the carrier will continue to expand indoor coverage. According to the plan in the next 3-5 years, users in urban areas will be able to use 5G indoor networks similar to the current 4G experience.
Besides Viettel, two other major carriers, Vinaphone and Mobifone, are also preparing to join the 5G race. Accordingly, prices are expected to fluctuate and become more competitive in the near future.
Currently, Vinaphone said that this unit is implementing a free 5G experience program. During the period from October 13 to November 15, VinaPhone customers who already have a 5G phone when in a 5G coverage area will receive 50GB of data with a usage period of 30 days.
Meanwhile, MobiFone announced that customers will be able to experience 5G services starting in November. The company revealed that it will deploy a model of infrastructure sharing cooperation with carriers that have suitable 5G bands.
