Vietnam attaches importance to and wants to promote and deepen multifaceted cooperation with Africa.

On the evening of May 24, 2024, at the Government Guest House, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu attended the Africa Day celebration organized by African embassies in Hanoi.

Attending the Ceremony were representatives of the Embassies of African countries in Vietnam: Egypt, Algeria, Angola, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, the Diplomatic Corps in Hanoi and representatives of many ministries, departments and branches of Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assistant Minister Nguyen Minh Vu highlighted the historical significance of Africa Day, a momentous event honoring the resilient and persistent fighting spirit of African countries in the past cause of national liberation and the progress and achievements in the cause of building and developing a peaceful and prosperous Africa today.

Assistant Minister Nguyen Minh Vu spoke at the ceremony,

The Assistant Minister affirmed that Vietnam highly appreciates the position and prestige of the African Union (AU) in the political-security, economic and social life of the continent; congratulated the African people on their great development achievements under the leadership of the AU, which have been recognized by the United Nations and the international community, as demonstrated by the AU's official becoming a permanent member of the G20. The Assistant Minister expressed his belief that with African countries actively promoting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Africa will soon become a dynamic development center of the world in the near future.

Pleased with the great achievements that African countries have made, Assistant Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote and deepen multifaceted cooperation with Africa, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

Vietnam has officially become an AU Observer (since December 2023) and has made many practical contributions to the initial achievements of the AU's Agenda 2063 with the Vision of "An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, working for the African people and representing a dynamic force in the international arena", especially in four areas: peacekeeping; ensuring food security; developing digital infrastructure and improving the quality of human resources. Two-way trade turnover recorded impressive growth in the context of Vietnam's trade with the world facing many difficulties in 2023, reaching 8.92 billion USD, up 8.9% compared to 2022.

Moroccan Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi, Head of the African Ambassadors Group in Hanoi, spoke at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Moroccan Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi, Head of the African Ambassadors in Hanoi, said that Africa is emerging and undergoing economic and systemic transformation with the ultimate goal of ensuring a fair and sustainable future; emphasizing its role as a growth engine of the world and a “land of opportunity”. Africa is actively cooperating with partners for sustainable economic development, despite the enormous difficulties in political instability, climate change, and the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic that the world is facing.

Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi affirmed that with Vietnam's strengths and experience and Africa's great natural needs and advantages, the two sides have great potential for cooperation, especially in the fields of food security, health and energy, towards the goal of building a prosperous and connected world.

At the Ceremony, Assistant Minister Nguyen Minh Vu and Ambassadors, representatives of Vietnamese ministries, departments, and branches... visited the display booths of African embassies with many unique cultural features, and enjoyed traditional cuisine of African countries.
