The annual Hue Cancer Prevention Scientific Conference, taking place from August 23 to 26 in Hue City, is one of the important specialized conferences in the annual program of activities of the Vietnam Cancer Association, jointly organized by Hue Central Hospital and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. It is highly appreciated for its professionalism and scientific quality.
In Vietnam, the rate of new cancer cases ranks 90/185 countries and the rate of cancer deaths ranks 50/185 countries.
More than 600 domestic and international delegates attended the annual Cancer Prevention Scientific Conference in Hue.
There are an estimated 182,563 new cases and 122,690 deaths from cancer. Out of every 100,000 people, 159 are newly diagnosed with cancer and 106 die from cancer. There are currently more than 350,000 Vietnamese people living with cancer.

Professor Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, said: "In a study by Hue Central Hospital on head and neck cancers diagnosed in the period 2010-2020, the rate of young patients under 40 years old was 11.2%, nearly double the figure 10 years earlier. However, over time and with the development of society and remarkable medical advances, cancer is no longer a bleak picture full of fear and obsession. In particular, cancer can now be cured if detected early and promptly and thanks to new advances in diagnosis and treatment. More and more cancer patients have been completely cured. The good news is that cancer diagnosis and treatment in Vietnam has now approached technological advances in the world."
Hue Central Hospital, a special-grade hospital of the Ministry of Health, has long been a prestigious cancer treatment facility in the region and the country. Over the years, cancer patients have benefited greatly from modern diagnostic and treatment equipment, advanced therapies and treatment techniques.

There were more than 600 delegates attending the Conference, including more than 30 international experts, reporters, and lecturers from organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Southeast Asian Breast Cancer Society (SEABCS) and countries such as the United States, Germany, Canada, Chile, Australia, Japan, India, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, etc. The Conference became a place for experienced domestic and international experts to meet and exchange expertise; at the same time, introducing the latest advances in cancer treatment in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan said that cancer is becoming a major burden for the world, including Vietnam. The Government has just updated the roadmap for implementing Vietnam's sustainable development goals by 2030. Accordingly, the goal is to reduce 20-25% of mortality before the age of 70 due to cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease through prevention and treatment, and improve mental and physical health. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to actively and strongly implement activities within the framework of global strategies, especially for cancers that can be prevented, detected early and treated effectively.
The Deputy Minister of Health highly appreciated the prestige, quality and attention of the conference to domestic and international oncology practitioners. Thereby, the conference marked new developments in the oncology field, creating patient confidence in the quality of cancer care and treatment in Vietnam.
