The 160th repatriation ceremony for the remains of US servicemen missing in action (MIA) in Vietnam took place at Da Nang International Airport today, April 10. The ceremony was attended by the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, Defense Attaché Thomas J. Bouchillon, and leaders and members of the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
At the ceremony, the Vietnamese representative handed over to the US representative two sets of remains as a result of the 150th Joint Search Operation, from February to April, in Nghe An and Quang Binh provinces.

The remains were examined by Vietnamese and American forensic experts in Da Nang, concluding that they may be related to cases of American soldiers missing in action during the Vietnam War and suggested being transferred to Hawaii, USA for further verification.
The humanitarian coordination activity to search for and account for US soldiers missing in action during the war in Vietnam has been conducted since the late 1980s between the Vietnamese and US governments. To date, it has helped verify 732 cases of US soldiers killed in the war. It is one of the pillars of cooperation to overcome the consequences of war between the two countries.
