Vietnam, Argentina promote parliamentary and local cooperation

In order to strengthen cooperation between the Vietnamese and Argentinean parliaments, Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, Ngo Minh Nguyet, had meetings with Congresswoman Lorena Villaverde and Congressman Santiago Cafiero.

According to the VNA correspondent in Buenos Aires, during the working session on September 24 with Ms. Villaverde - Congresswoman of Rio Negro province, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet highly appreciated the cooperation between the Argentine National Assembly and the Vietnamese National Assembly in recent times, through the exchange of delegations, especially the recent visit of the delegation of the Vietnam National Assembly's Economic Committee and the Hanoi People's Council. For her part, Ms. Villaverde introduced the tourism, mineral, oil and gas, fruit tree cultivation, livestock and fishing potential of Rio Negro province, and expressed her desire to promote cooperation with Vietnam in general and localities in particular. Previously, during the working session with Mr. Santiago Cafiero - Congressman of Buenos Aires province, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet expressed her desire to increase delegation exchanges between the two countries' National Assemblies and promote trade with Buenos Aires province.

Mr. Cafiero introduced the potential of Buenos Aires province, the most populous province in Argentina with 15.6 million people out of a total population of 46.23 million in South America, as well as the province's agricultural strengths in corn, soybean, wheat cultivation and large-scale livestock farming, especially cattle farming. During the meeting on September 19, Mr. Amadeo Enrique Vallejos - Mayor of Reconquista, Santa Fe province, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet introduced the potential of Vietnam - Argentina's 7th largest trading partner, and invited businesses of Santa Fe province to attend the Vietnam-Argentina business forum, scheduled to be held in November.

Mr. Vallejos introduced the strengths of Santa Fe province and Reconquista city such as technology in agricultural production, machinery equipment, livestock farming, sunflower and cotton cultivation. At the working sessions, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet affirmed her readiness to support Argentine localities in expanding economic activities, trade and investment exchanges with Vietnam, as well as strengthening parliamentary cooperation and delegation exchanges. Trade turnover between Vietnam and Argentina in the first 8 months of this year reached 2.54 billion USD, down 2.75% over the same period in 2023, of which Vietnam's exports reached 380 million USD, and imports were about 2.16 billion USD. Vietnam is an important trading partner of Argentina, after Brazil, China, the US, Chile, India and Paraguay. Vietnam currently imports mainly soybean meal, soybean meal and corn from Argentina for livestock, accounting for 99% of the import value. Vietnam exports to Argentina phones, computers and electronic components.
