According to VNA, on the occasion of US President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam from September 10-11, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung spoke to the press about the purpose and significance of the visit, as well as the achievements of bilateral cooperation in recent times and prospects for bilateral relations in the coming time.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said that since Vietnam and the US normalized relations in 1995, every sitting US president has visited Vietnam. Now President Joe Biden continues this fine “tradition”.
What is especially meaningful is that the visit takes place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership (2013-2023).
With the comprehensive and extensive development of bilateral relations, President Biden’s visit will create more momentum to bring bilateral relations to a new height. This is the spirit that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden agreed on during their high-level phone call on March 29.
For Vietnam, welcoming President Biden on a state visit is a contribution to implementing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and comprehensive and extensive international integration.
"I believe that the important results of the visit will practically serve the interests of the people of the two countries, contribute to the relationship between the US and ASEAN, as well as peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world," said Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung said that during the visit, President Biden will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State, and have activities with businesses and people.
The two sides will review the Comprehensive Partnership in all fields and set out directions for the relationship in the coming time, focusing on cooperation in science and technology, economics, trade and investment, people-to-people exchange, and overcoming the consequences of war.
"This will open a new chapter in Vietnam-US relations , while creating more favorable objective conditions for Vietnam to gradually assert a higher position in the regional and global value chain," the Ambassador emphasized.
The two sides also plan to jointly organize war relic exchanges and meetings between technology businesses.
On this occasion, the two sides are expected to sign many important economic agreements and contracts that could be worth billions of dollars.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations based on the progress and achievements that the two countries have made in recent times; the potential and aspirations of the people of each country; and the new cooperation frameworks that the leaders of Vietnam and the US will create during President Biden's upcoming visit.
"I believe that like the 28 years since normalization and 10 years of Comprehensive Partnership, the cooperation between the two countries in the coming time will contribute positively to Vietnam's development goals set by the 13th National Party Congress for the very important milestones of 2030 and 2045," said the Ambassador.
"History has also proven that when the Vietnam-US relationship develops positively and stably, it will not only serve the practical interests of the people of the two countries, but also be in line with the trend of peace, cooperation and development, contributing positively to the development of the relationship between the US and ASEAN, as well as maintaining stability and common prosperity in the entire region and the world," Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized.
