Notably, 1,027 new cases of corruption and official crimes were prosecuted (an increase of over 17%). Authorities continued to detect, prosecute, and investigate many major cases, with particularly serious and complicated crimes.

Many cases involve ministries, branches, and localities, with close, sophisticated collusion between state officials and businesses in the fields of land management, resource and mineral exploitation, basic construction investment, electricity and petroleum trading.

For example, violations of regulations on resource exploration and exploitation; violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences; smuggling occurred at Thai Duong Group Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Rare Earth Joint Stock Company and related units.

Crimes against judicial activities increased by nearly 25%

Another noteworthy content mentioned by the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy is that 76 new cases of crimes against judicial activities were prosecuted (an increase of nearly 25%). The Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency has discovered many serious violations of the law in judicial activities and accepted and investigated 105 cases/204 defendants (including 74 cases/138 newly accepted and prosecuted defendants) to strictly handle them according to the provisions of the law.

Specifically, in the case of an Investigator, an Investigation Officer of the Investigation Police Agency of Ha Long City Police (Quang Ninh Province) received a bribe of 1.3 billion VND to help the defendants get out on bail.

According to the report of Chief Justice Nguyen Huy Tien, the Investigation Agency of the Supreme People's Procuracy has accepted and investigated 55 cases/115 defendants who were former investigators and investigation officers of the Public Security sector (old number 11 cases/39 defendants; new number accepted and prosecuted 41 cases/76 defendants; number restored 3 cases) to handle the crimes of: Receiving bribes; taking advantage of positions and powers while performing official duties; abusing positions and powers to appropriate property; forgery in work; using torture; falsifying case files, incidents...

In addition, the Procuracy discovered a number of violations and shortcomings of civil servants and prosecutors, and the Supreme People's Procuracy's Investigation Agency initiated an investigation into 4 cases/10 defendants who are civil servants of the Procuracy for the crime of Receiving bribes.

The Supreme People's Procuracy's investigation agency has accepted and investigated 11 cases/13 defendants who are civil servants of the Court for the crimes of: Receiving bribes; abusing position and power to appropriate property; falsifying case files and incidents.

At the same time, 18 cases/21 defendants were accepted and investigated, including 6 old cases/7 defendants, 11 new cases/13 defendants, and 1 case/1 defendant who was a civil servant of the Civil Judgment Enforcement Agency for the crimes of: Embezzlement of property; abuse of position and power to appropriate property; lack of responsibility causing serious consequences.

Of these, there are 4 cases/4 defendants being investigated for the crime of abusing position and power to appropriate property; 6 cases/7 defendants for the crime of embezzlement of property and 1 case/1 defendant for the crime of accepting bribes.
