In the context of commercial software such as VISSIM being expensive, SUMO is considered a viable option with the advantages of being free and flexible. This is an open source simulation software, to create a digital copy of the real traffic system.

In particular, AI Vision is integrated to collect data from surveillance cameras, identify vehicles, count traffic and detect traffic incidents.

From that data, the system can build a virtual testing environment that is accurate to every traffic participant's behavior – from running a red light to driving in the wrong lane.
