Not only is Victoria School a pioneer in Vietnam in bringing professional musicals to high schools, it also creates a comprehensiveeducational environment where each student is nurtured in their intelligence, soul and national identity in the most profound and vivid way.
Art becomes a modern educational method
In the context of integration, education does not stop at book knowledge but needs to arouse cultural, spiritual and emotional values. At Victoria School, musicals are included in the general education program as an experiential learning method, helping students develop comprehensively in thinking, skills and personality.
On the evening of April 19 and 20, 2025, Victoria International Bilingual School respectfully introduced the musical “The Enchanted Crossbow” – a unique theatrical work, combining the inspiration of Vietnamese cultural materials from the legend of “The Magic Crossbow” with the romantic and tragic spirit of “Romeo & Juliet” in Western Broadway art. This is a typical artistic product in the integrated education program, making art a means of nurturing the soul, developing emotions and multidimensional thinking for the young generation.
Inspired by the legend of My Chau - Trong Thuy, the play recreates a heroic period of the nation in the language of modern art. Students do not only learn history - they live in history, transforming into characters such as My Chau, Trong Thuy, King An Duong Vuong, etc. The Enchanted Crossbow is not only an epic love song, but also a reminder of loyalty, of putting national interests above personal feelings.
Doing school art – the most professional way
The musical “The Enchanted Crossbow” is an art project carefully invested in by Victoria School with the participation of more than 40 students as actors and dancers, marking an important turning point in the approach to art in the school environment.

What makes this project different is the way Victoria School approaches school art: not superficially, not illustratively, but seriously, methodically, and professionally. From the script, direction, music , stage design to lighting, costumes - every step is invested in as elaborately as a real play.
The musical was staged with the participation of prestigious names: Meritorious Artist Chi Trung, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Si Tien, general director Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet, artists Nguyen Tran Trung Quan, Quinzel Nguyen, Noah Quoc Anh... And especially, bringing students to perform at Ho Chi Minh City Theater - an iconic stage - is a strong step to affirm the professional standards in school arts that Victoria School is pursuing.
“The role of My Chau helps me live in the character’s emotions. I learn to listen, understand and realize that a wrong choice can affect an entire nation.” — Dang Nguyen Thu Ky, student of Victoria School - South Saigon
“Through the role of Trong Thuy, I clearly understand the struggles between love and duty, between the desire for peace and sacrifice. The role teaches me to appreciate honesty, faith and the desire to live in a peaceful country.” — Dam Hoang Son, student at Victoria School – South Saigon
The Enchanted Crossbow is the pride of Victoria School in its journey to nurture global citizens – brave, soulful and full of pride for their roots. The play captivates audiences with its unique combination of folklore and modern international musical. Costumes are specially designed by Designer Nguyen Hoang Tung (Hoang Hoe), music and choreography blend traditional and contemporary. Notably, the play is 100% in English, demonstrating Victoria School’s bilingual orientation and opening the door to promote Vietnamese culture to the world.

This is the first time an inter-level school system in Vietnam has staged a student musical with a scale of organization and performance quality comparable to professional theater. From the selection of actors, choreography, music to stage design and lighting, everything has been implemented methodically, demonstrating serious investment in both expertise and artistic education thinking.
Although Victoria School was not the first to introduce musicals into its curriculum, the way the school implemented them has established itself as a pioneer in bringing professional musicals into general education in a new and inspiring way. Here, students not only learn about art, but also live with art – practice skills, nurture passion and express themselves as true artists. Victoria School has created an environment where the stage becomes an open classroom, where students can explore their own abilities through creative and professional artistic experiences.
From school stage to the journey of shaping educational identity
Making art at school does not mean simple or trendy. At Victoria School, every work created is aimed at high quality standards, contributing to nurturing aesthetic thinking, the ability to perceive art, as well as forming personality and identity for the young generation.
Investing in arts education is part of the comprehensive development strategy that Victoria School consistently pursues. Creative projects such as “The Enchanted Crossbow” not only elevate the level of school arts but also contribute to shaping a generation of Vietnamese students who are confident, creative, love their national culture and are ready to integrate internationally.
