MSc. Luu Thi Minh Diep, a doctor at the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Center of Bach Mai Hospital, said that fatty liver is a condition in which excessive fat accumulates in the liver (over 5% of liver weight), affecting liver function. The main cause of this disease is related to an unreasonable diet, being overweight, obese, and lack of exercise. The disease can also occur in thin people, due to metabolic disorders or genetic factors.
It is necessary to increase foods rich in fiber such as green vegetables, while maintaining physical activity to help prevent fatty liver disease.

5 GROUPS OF CAUSES
According to MSc. Luu Thi Minh Diep, there are 5 specific groups of causes including: unhealthy eating habits: consuming too much food containing sugar, fat, processed food, fast food; alcohol use; obesity and overweight (excess fat in the body can cause fat to accumulate in the liver); sedentary lifestyle (lack of exercise will reduce the body's ability to burn fat); diabetes, high blood pressure can be factors that increase the risk of fatty liver (related to metabolic disorders).
3 GROUPS OF DISEASE CONDITIONS
Fatty liver disease is divided into 3 groups:
Mild: Only fat accumulates in the liver but does not cause inflammation or damage to liver cells. This level may not cause obvious symptoms and can be reversed with lifestyle and diet changes.
Moderate: This stage is when more fat accumulates and may start to cause inflammation of the liver. This condition can still be controlled with changes in diet and exercise.
Severe: When fat accumulates and causes hepatitis, leading to cirrhosis and possibly developing into liver cancer. This is also the most serious form of fatty liver, requiring active treatment and regular management.
SYMPTOMS
When the condition becomes severe, people with fatty liver disease may experience fatigue, itchy skin, hives, allergies; pain or a feeling of heaviness in the right abdomen; loss of appetite, nausea. In severe cases, the disease can lead to cirrhosis or hepatitis, causing severe liver dysfunction, with symptoms such as jaundice, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, etc.
P DISEASE PREVENTION
Dr. Luu Thi Minh Diep noted that diet plays an important role in the treatment of fatty liver disease. To prevent it, it is necessary to increase the intake of green vegetables, fresh fruits, and foods containing fiber; limit sugar, fat, and processed foods. In addition, it is necessary to increase physical activity such as: regular exercise, at least 30 minutes a day. Walking, jogging, swimming, or yoga can help control weight and reduce body fat.
According to Dr. Diep, weight loss helps improve liver problems. A weight loss of more than 3% will improve fatty infiltration, a weight loss of 5-7% will improve hepatitis; a weight loss of more than 10% will improve fibrosis. If you have diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure, you need to control these diseases well to prevent complications of fatty liver.
