Why air conditioners need Wi-Fi connection

As a household product with a long life cycle, used for many years, air conditioner technology is often updated slowly, with few breakthroughs. Products in the past decade have only revolved around inverter solutions to help increase cooling speed and reduce power consumption. Some multi-system applications (one hot block distributing many air conditioners) are often applied from the time the house is first built, and are rarely applied to individual customers.

Smart cooling solutions, remote control, and self-cleaning significantly improve the experience.

For example, LG's flagship air conditioner line in Vietnam, the Dualcool AI Air model, has upgrades based mainly on smart functions instead of cooling mechanisms. The product applies sensors, artificial intelligence and IoT applications, improving responsiveness.

One of the basic requirements for home appliances such as air conditioners is to have a mobile control app, connected to a Wi-Fi network. The solution seems simple but it supports users a lot. Air conditioners have more and more functions, traditional controls are often not enough, difficult to track. In addition, they are easy to lose during use, need to replace batteries...

LG's Dualcool AI Air model uses the ThinQ app to control it. I set up, set modes, or monitor the device's operating information in a complete and intuitive way. The mobile app also solves one of the biggest worries of users: forgetting to turn off the air conditioner when going away for many days. The temperature sensor also automatically detects forgetting to close the door, reducing capacity to avoid waste.

The ThinQ app controls power consumption, reports abnormalities and material consumption. The functions allow users to easily manage and maintain air conditioners without much effort. Compared to before, this software has an easy-to-use, more intuitive interface with less lag. However, some menu sections are still hidden and require a lot of steps to access.

In recent years, manufacturers have experimented with new air-blowing mechanisms that have two effects: rapid cooling and reduced cold air flow. Samsung has Wind-Free, a line of machines that uses small holes to disperse cold air, while still ensuring heat coverage. Similarly, LG's Dualcool line uses dual air vents with two flexible slots. This solution also meets the same effect as Wind-Free, but does not disrupt the overall product design.

In fact, LG's model cools about 20% faster than its competitors with the same capacity. This change does not affect the experience much as most Inverter air conditioners respond very quickly, after about 2-3 minutes with the right space. What has been improved is that the airflow is adjusted smoothly, suitable for customer needs. With sensors that track people, Dualcool AI Air can bring the airflow to the right position, in direct or surrounding air circulation modes.

In big cities, cleaning and dehumidifying functions are also a must-have for air conditioners. LG products filter fine dust and use ions to remove many types of bacteria. They also remove humidity from the air, bringing it to a suitable level, effective for the humid season in the North. Unfortunately, LG products are not yet equipped with a fresh air supply feature, which is necessary for apartments in Vietnam.

LG Dualcool AI costs 17.5 million VND for the 9,000 BTU/h version, 21 million VND will be increased to 12,000 BTU/h. This price is one level higher than the regular product lines, with the same capacity. Users have to pay more to buy the high-end version, with heating function. Products of Casper, Daikin already have 2-way air conditioners in the 17 million VND segment. However, they do not have smart features, air flow control or mobile apps.

In return, LG air conditioners use Dual Inverter engines, with dual compressors, the product has fast cooling speed, is durable, has little vibration, noise and saves electricity. This is a higher technology than Inverter AC, increasing the price of the product.
