In a 2014 interview, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg shared the reason behind his habit.
Although the questioner expected Mark Zuckerberg to respond humorously, he replied very seriously. He said that choosing simple clothes, or even having no other options in his wardrobe, allows him to focus more on his work.
Mark Zuckerberg replied, "I want my life to be simple, with as few decisions as possible, except for those that serve the community."
Zuckerberg said his wardrobe contains about 20 identical gray T-shirts.
He added: "I'm really lucky to be in the position I am today. Every day I wake up and serve over a billion people."
He revealed that even the smallest decisions, like choosing what to eat or wear for breakfast, can unnecessarily consume energy.
Zuckerberg added, "I feel I'm not doing my job well if I'm spending my energy on silly or frivolous things in life."
Nearly a decade has passed since that Q&A, and it seems Mark Zuckerberg remains very much loyal to his simple yet distinctive wardrobe.
On the rare occasions he was seen wearing outfits such as navy blue crew-neck long-sleeved shirts, beige boxy shirts, khaki sweatshirts, and even sweaters. For important government meetings, he wore a suit instead of his usual gray T-shirt.
However, when it comes to Mark Zuckerberg's attire, people immediately think of the "combo" of jeans and a gray T-shirt. This is a signature style of the Facebook founder.

In fact, Mark Zuckerberg's plain gray T-shirts are anything but simple. You'd be surprised to learn they're custom-ordered from a renowned Italian designer. Each shirt costs between $300 and $400, and most importantly, they're not available for mass sale.
Back in early August last year, a 26-year-old Australian fashion entrepreneur named Klaus Buchroithner came up with the idea of releasing "replica" T-shirts of Mark Zuckerberg. Each shirt, which he named the Zuckerberg Shirt, cost 40 euros and was sold in the US and EU countries. Klaus Buchroithner stated that all profits from this initiative would be donated to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, an organization founded by Mark and his wife, Priscilla Chan, with the goal of impacting issues from healthcare to education.
