Why is the demolition of the old Giong Gang bridge slow?

Giong Gang Bridge in Tan Hong District (Dong Thap) is one of three bridges built to increase clearance to meet the needs of transporting goods of businesses and people traveling by waterway, especially during flood season when water levels rise.

Contractors are actively constructing temporary bridges at the Giong Gang bridge clearance raising project (Dong Thap).

The project started in March 2024. It is expected that after 540 days of construction, the new Giong Gang Bridge will have a horizontal clearance of 5m greater and be 2m higher than the old bridge. Because the project cannot divert traffic, the contractor must build a temporary bridge next to the old bridge.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hoan, technical officer of Truong Thanh Investment - Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company (the contractor) said that the construction of the temporary bridge is facing difficulties as the progress has only reached 70%. The reason is that the contractor has not been able to gather the I900 beams to the construction site to construct the temporary bridge.

Waiting for the I900 girder to arrive at the construction site, the contractor will speed up the construction of the temporary bridge.

"The temporary bridge built by the contractor has a load capacity of 30 tons so that all vehicles can pass through. Meanwhile, I900 beams are currently scarce, so the construction has not been smooth," Mr. Hoan added.

Striving to open temporary bridge in November

According to Mr. Hoan, the initial plan was that the temporary bridge would be completed and opened to traffic on October 15. Therefore, the contractor has been very active in organizing the construction by arranging 13 workers and many equipment and machines to work in two shifts, starting from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. the same day.

"Currently, the contractor has basically completed the temporary bridge piers. They will speed up the construction when the beams arrive. It is expected that by November 20, the contractor will complete and open the temporary bridge to traffic. At the same time, during this time, the contractor will dismantle the old Giong Gang bridge to carry out the clearance raising work," said Mr. Hoan.

The contractor strives to open the temporary bridge to traffic on November 20.

The Waterway Project Management Board, Ministry of Transport (investor) said that regarding the contractor's slow progress in constructing the Giong Gang bridge, the Board also regularly sends written reminders and directs the contractor to correct the situation.

Regarding the contractor's failure to gather I900 beams to the construction site, the investor has also directed the contractor to do this immediately. At the same time, the contractor is requested to increase human resources and equipment to the construction site to speed up the construction to compensate for the project's progress.

When raising the clearance of Giong Gang bridge, more than 1.6 hectares of land must be recovered, with a total of 3 households having to be compensated on the side of provincial road 842, in An Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district (Dong Thap).
