On November 3, the working delegation of the National Assembly Economic Committee worked with the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committees of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City on issues related to investment in the construction of the North-South high-speed railway project.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy said that the locations of passenger and freight stations of the North-South high-speed railway must be chosen in places with large enough demand to ensure effective investment.

According to Deputy Minister Huy, from China's experience, there are railway lines that have invested in many stations, but after 5 years, there are no passengers, the operation is not enough to pay the electricity bill, leading to closure and equipment degradation.

"We build stations wherever there is a need to go, but not everywhere there is a need to go we build stations (if so, every ward and commune would have a need), so it is only effective where the need is large enough" - Mr. Huy emphasized.

He said that the North-South high-speed railway route is expected to pass through 20 provinces and cities with a total length of about 1,541km, so each province and city must definitely have a station to serve the needs of travel, economy, security, national defense...

High-speed railway station locations must be connected to other modes of transport such as airports, bus stations, ports, etc.

"The stations must not be placed too close together because when placed too close together, the train's speed will be 350km/h. When accelerating, the acceleration length and braking length will be about 15km, so the total time running at maximum speed will be short, leading to inefficiency," said Mr. Huy.

He also clearly stated that the train schedule, which stations it stops at, how many trains it runs, all change by the hour, by season, by year and by period.

"During the operation of the high-speed railway stations, we will make regular adjustments. For example, in the summer we will stop regularly at stations with high tourist demand, but in the winter we will adjust again," said Mr. Huy.

Proposal to add Cam Lam station

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that the province is expected to have a passenger station in Dien Khanh district and a cargo station in Ninh Hoa town. Mr. Tuan proposed that there should be an additional station in Cam Lam district (Khanh Hoa).

According to Mr. Tuan, currently the Cam Lam urban planning has been approved by the Prime Minister and a strategic investor has proposed it and we are reporting to the Prime Minister to approve the investment policy.

"This is a very potential area and is qualified for ministries and branches to consider allowing Khanh Hoa province to add another station in Cam Lam district," said Mr. Tuan.
