Why are radishes considered good for people with diabetes?

Numerous scientific studies have proven the health benefits of white radish. What's special is that you can easily find and enjoy it in Vietnamese markets.

According to Traditional Medicine Practitioner Bui Dac Sang from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, radishes are rich in nutrients and are likened to white ginseng. Many studies indicate that white radishes contain glucosinolate, which helps prevent cancer. This natural plant compound breaks down into two compounds during digestion: indole and isothiocyanate – substances capable of attacking tumor cells and slowing cancer progression.

Radishes are also one of the root vegetables that help control blood sugar well in people with diabetes. People with diabetes are advised to limit foods with a high glycemic index (GI) because they can affect blood sugar levels. With their low calorie content and GI, radishes are very good for them. Furthermore, radishes are an excellent source of fiber, which can lower blood cholesterol levels.

According to nutritionist Shivani Kandwal, founder of Nutrivibes, if you have diabetes, you should eat half a cup of beets or drink beet juice every day. This addition can help improve lipid metabolism, reduce cardiovascular risk, and prevent insulin resistance. Furthermore, beets contain coenzyme Q10, which helps prevent the development of diabetes.
