In late August 2024, workers at the My Dinh National Sports Complex were busy cleaning seats, facilities and especially taking care of the grass in preparation for the upcoming important matches of the national football team. This September, the Vietnamese team will host the Russian team (September 5) and the Thai team (September 10) as well as the match between Russia and Thailand (September 7) within the framework of the LBBank Cup 2024 international friendly tournament at My Dinh Stadium. This is also the home ground of the Vietnamese team in some matches at the AFF Cup 2024 (officially known as the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024) starting later this year. It has been nearly 3 months since the last big match (Vietnam vs Philippines in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup) at My Dinh Stadium and according to observations, the grass is still in quite good condition despite being in the middle of a hot summer.

In some areas, the My Dinh Stadium grass is still mottled due to wilting grass, but not significantly. There are about 2 more weeks for the stadium management board and workers to take care of the grass so that it is greener and thicker, reaching the best condition before the international friendly matches.

But in general, the grass at My Dinh Stadium is green, thick and quite beautiful.

The My Dinh Stadium grass is a topic of special interest to fans every time this place becomes the place to host major tournaments or welcome international football teams. Especially in late 2022 and early 2023, My Dinh Stadium was "called out" a lot in the press, social media posts by fans because of the shabby image: withered yellow grass, degraded facilities,... many people even compared My Dinh Stadium's surface to being a plowed field if it rained heavily while playing football.

In November 2022, the incident of the roof of the goal being blown off in a friendly match between the Vietnamese team and Borussia Dortmund (Germany) became a "strange story" that appeared in the international press. The image of the goalkeeper of the German club jumping up to fix the goal looked funny at first glance but was a heartbreaking image for Vietnamese sports.

In recent years, the My Dinh National Sports Complex has been struggling with many financial difficulties. In early July this year, the Economic - Budget Committee of the Hanoi People's Council has just reported on the implementation of legal regulations in the management of tax debt collection in the city in the period of 2021 - 2023. The report shows tax debt related to land, including financial obligations on land of a number of large units but unable to pay, My Dinh National Sports Complex alone owes up to 895 billion VND in tax. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Finance also announced that the My Dinh National Sports Complex is not eligible for tax debt cancellation and late payment fees are not charged.

However, from mid-2023 until now, the facilities and condition of My Dinh Stadium have seen many positive improvements. Recent home matches of the Vietnam team have recorded quite good grass conditions, sturdy goals, clean audience seats, etc. Hopefully, the beautiful images of My Dinh Stadium will be maintained stably and the quality of the stadium is also one of the important factors contributing to the achievements of Vietnamese football in the upcoming important matches.

VFF said that tickets for the friendly matches at My Dinh Stadium in September 2024 will be issued exclusively on the VinID application (from August 29, VinID will be upgraded to OneU). The first round of online ticket sales will be from 9:00 a.m. on August 21 to 11:59 p.m. on August 27 (fans can simultaneously buy tickets for all three days of matches). The second round of sales will be from 0:00 a.m. on August 28 to 11:59 p.m. on August 28 (fans can simultaneously buy tickets for the match between Russia and Thailand on September 7 and the match between Vietnam and Thailand on September 10). Phase 3 will be open for sale from 0:00 on August 29 to 23:59 on September 2 (fans can buy tickets to watch the match between Vietnam and Thailand on September 10) or until tickets are sold out, whichever comes first.
