Vietnamese athletes auction ASIAD gold medal to support compatriots affected by typhoon Yagi

(VTC News) - Athlete Luu Thi Thanh decided to auction her 2006 ASIAD gold medal to support her compatriots affected by typhoon Yagi.
On the afternoon of September 18, former athlete Luu Thi Thanh confirmed on her personal page that she had successfully auctioned the gold medal she won at the 2006 ASIAD. The former sepak takraw star wanted to use the proceeds to support people affected by Typhoon Yagi. After 2 days of auctioning, Luu Thi Thanh raised 102 million VND. She decided to end the auction early so that the donations could reach people in areas severely damaged by storms and floods as quickly as possible.

" All proceeds from the auction will be transferred to the Central Committee of the Fatherland Front's account to contribute a small part to overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi. The gold medal is a meaningful and valuable souvenir of my life journey. I believe that it is an extremely sacred item that brings good luck to donors and collectors who want to experience and appreciate the magical energy of this item ," Luu Thi Thanh expressed. In 2006 in Doha (Qatar), Luu Thi Thanh, Bich Thuy and Hai Thao entered the final of the women's sepak takraw team at the ASIAD. Vietnam's opponent was Thailand. After 4 hours of competition, Luu Thi Thanh and her teammates won a historic victory, bringing home a noble gold medal. Talking about the decision to auction this precious souvenir, Luu Thi Thanh said: " Life is a journey of giving and receiving continuously, each of us is an important link in that connection.As a Vietnamese citizen, I wish to contribute my small strength from the years I was nurtured by my hometown Thanh Hoa and the country to conquer my dream. That is why I would like to auction the Gold Medal of the 2006 Doha Qatar Asiad ". After the Yagi storm passed, many athletes and sports coaches had activities to share with their compatriots. Quang Hai, Tien Linh, Que Ngoc Hai, Hoang Dinh Tung, Coach Park Hang Seo,... contributed more than 1 billion VND to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
