Having been a motorbike taxi driver for 30 years, Mr. Thieu Van Quang (Ward 4, Tan An City, Long An Province) is currently facing many difficulties due to competition with new means of transport technology. In addition, his old age and many diseases such as high blood pressure , diabetes, etc. make it harder for him to make a living. "On hot days, I get tired and easily get heatstroke because I work outdoors continuously from morning to night" - Mr. Quang confided.
Mr. Pham Van Phu (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Duoc district) wears a long-sleeved shirt, gloves, and a face covering to deliver goods in hot weather.
The hot season is often deserted because many people are afraid to go out, so Mr. Quang's income has decreased. "At noon, I only get one ride or many days, no rides at all. Sometimes I plan to take a day or two off to rest, but thinking about the expenses such as rent, food, etc., I continue to try. As long as I have good health, I will try every day. Seeing customers needing to be taken here and there, I am also happy and have more motivation" - Mr. Quang said. Currently, his average monthly income is unstable, fluctuating from 1-2 million VND. Although it is very hard, he still diligently waits for customers at familiar intersections, smiling kindly at each person who stops to call for a ride.
After many hardships of hard manual labor as a factory worker and porter, Mr. Vo Tan Toan (My Phu commune, Thu Thua district) found a stable job. For the past 10 years, he has been working as a security guard for a bank.
The hot air from the road burned his face, sweat soaked his back, but Mr. Toan still enthusiastically guided customers in and out. The sun was glaring, darkening his skin, but he still tried to complete his assigned tasks well and protect customers' property. In particular, he was always gentle and friendly despite working long hours in the hot weather. At an age where he has experienced many hardships, his greatest wish is to stick with his current job for a long time. "Currently, my salary is about 5 million VND/month. This income is not high, but I get Saturdays and Sundays off to rest and help my wife with housework," Mr. Toan shared.
Mr. Pham Van Phu (Phuoc Ly commune, Can Duoc district) is currently a delivery staff of SPX Express Company Limited. Having been in this job for about 6 months, every day, he handles about 70 orders, which means he has to roam outside from early morning to late afternoon. “12-14 hours is the hottest time of the day, but I still try to run to meet the orders, trying to complete the work before dark. When I get tired, I often stop under the shade of a tree, drink some water, rest and then continue working. The sun is tiring but it is better than the rainy season because the roads are slippery, easy to fall, delivery is slow, goods get wet, ...” - Mr. Phu shared.
The sun is hot, the work is more tiring, but everyone is still happy and responsible because after the struggle for survival, there is a meal and a family waiting. That image makes us appreciate even more the silent values of labor in life./.
